About this listen

A brilliant, twisty novel about a missing woman, an unfaithful husband, and the dark secrets that will destroy two perfect families.

A scandalous revelation is about to devastate a picturesque town where the houses are immaculate and the neighborhoods are tightly knit. Devoted mother Cora O’Connell has found the journal of her friend Laurel’s daughter - a beautiful college student who lives next door - revealing an illicit encounter. Hours later, Laurel makes a shattering discovery of her own: her daughter has vanished without a trace. Over the course of one weekend, the crises of two close families are about to trigger a chain reaction that will expose a far more disturbing web of secrets. Now everything is at stake as they’re forced to confront the lies they have told in order to survive.

Good ,but too long

Interesting plot but way too but characters thoughts are way too long. Almost gave it three stars ,except the multiple story lines kept my interest and kept me listening. I notice in all these psychological thrillers, the men are all jerks if not down right sociopaths.

Unexpected Treat!

Not my usual type of story. I was in for a surprise.Excitement and drama on every page. I used Audible and the reader was excellent!

Just OK

This is a somewhat gripping thriller - although the sappy title is a very good indicator of what lies within. Cora, the obsessed mother of twin toddlers, is unbearable. The other characters only less so.

Spoiler included

I really enjoyed this book until the end. Four main male characters and they were all a disappointment. I much prefer mysteries or books with a plot such as this one, but a little happily ever after would have been nice. Very dark view of men.

Confusing with too many characters

Too many characters to keep track of!! I had to make a cheat sheet of the 20 or more characters and how they were related and refer back to it while I was listening or I would have been totally lost. I was pretty lost as it was but it could have been a good book. Definitely could have left Isabella and Terrence out I still can’t figure out their place in the story.

Narrator took away from the book

Pretty good book. Good story.
I didn't care for the narrator, she made it sound pretty juvenile, but glad I stuck it out.

AWESOME!!!!!

Such a good story! This book had all the crucial elements of a good read. Great storyline, introduction of characters, twists and conclusive ending. Alot of psychological thrillers tend to start out slow, but this book drew you in with the introduction of the first character. There was so much going on that the further I got, the harder it became to put down.

Enjoyed until the end

There are a lot of characters in the book so I had to write them down to keep them straight in the beginning. I really enjoyed the buildup but when the ending was read to me I didn't even realize it was the end. I was quite disappointed. Its like the ending was an afterthought placed right in the middle of the climax.
