About this listen

Inc. reviewed 200 business books in search of the small business Bible. Included in the final three they selected was When Friday Isn’t Payday. Here’s what Inc. said:

“My favorite section of When Friday Isn’t Payday is called ‘Dealing with Crisis.’ There, Kirk takes a couple of classic small company crises - such as not meeting payroll - and calmly lists possible solutions. This is Kirk at his best, an experienced small business owner figuratively at your side, keeping panic at bay with practical solutions. What separates this book from the pack is relentless practicality.”

Practical Guidance

I received a review copy of this audiobook.

The advice in this book makes sense and is consistent with similar advice i have read or received in the past without feeling like it has nothing new to offer.

The book begins with a warning that this book is not for everyone, and proceeded to disqualify me from its target audience, but that doesn't mean it wasn't helpful or that it wouldn't be even moreso for others.

My biggest difficulties came from the format as an audiobook. I found the narration unpleasant, reminiscent of a very pushy former acquaintance. Many of the accounting suggestions lost me as the narrator rattled off strings of numbers in quick succession. Fortunately, each time a visual aid is either necessary or helpful, you are directed to the free resources on the website www.whenfridayisntpayday.com.

On the whole, this book was worth listening to, and I may revisit it should I ever find myself in the position of actually starting a new business.

still listening to this book and so far it feels as though someone is reading a text book from school. the narrator tone is very good but the content is very boring.
