About this listen

What lurks in the shadows at the Royal Navy Historic Dockyard? Is it something evil and malignant? Will it suck at your soul? No, because it will be some idiot in a costume, same as always.

Tempest Michaels is going undercover with best friend Big Ben to find out why his dad was found unconscious and stuffed into a wheelie bin. There is no client this time, just a definite need to find someone worthy of a jolly good punch in the pants.

With strange noises coming through the floor of the rigging room and reports of ghosts seen at night wearing the uniform of 18th-century Royal Navy officers, the chaps set out to unravel the mystery, but is there more going on than a simple fake haunting? Also, what do the old Navy boys mean by their offer of help? And why are so many of the employees Ukrainian?

It’s going to take more than a determined approach and Big Ben’s top chat-up lines to get through this one. Plus, it’s Jagjit’s wedding next weekend, which means a bachelor party in four days’ time.

Will he survive the anti-Army banter of the old Navy boys? Will Big Ben copulate with every single woman on the night-shift cleaning crew?

Join them as we find out just what is causing the whispers in the rigging.

Warning: This audiobook contains some mild cussing and sexual references. Nothing that would be R-rated, but I would not let my nine-year-old niece listen to it.

Very Entertaining

Tempest Michaels has to solve a crime while planning a bachelor party, driving his pregnant sister to the hospital, caring for his injured father, and living with two dachshunds. Great story and another hit by Steve Higgs. His stories get better as this series moves along.

Whispers in the Rigging

Tempest gets the call most children don't want to receive--his dad was attacked and is in hospital. Thus begins another hectic filled time in his life as he tries to unravel what happened to his dad. Along the way he is also responsible for a bachelor party for his friend and his wedding duties as best man. In the strangest of ways, he learns a little more about Inspector Quinn.
From serious to funny to downright hilarious at times, this story with the fantastic ability of the narrator, Charles Robert Fox , comes to life and pulls you into a world of dizzying mystery and absurdness.
Fantastic audio and story!

Laugh yourself silly!

situational-humor, verbal-humor, England, private-investigators, laugh-out-loud, mystery

Tempest Michaels does it again! This time he and his friend Big Ben are out to prove that it was no ghost that has been causing trouble at Royal Navy Historic Dockyard and struck his dad on the head and into a coma. Serious stuff, a good mystery plot, not enough about his mini weenies, and enough fun to have you laughing out loud at a cemetery. With a hot cup of caffeine. Always too much fun!
I managed to get the Whispersync on sale, and Charles Robert Fox really knows how to deadpan the reader into spilling the caffeine!

Another goodie!

This one starts out at the end, then backtracks (not giving anything away as that is what you know right as it starts). That is not a writing trick I care for so I had to force myself to stick with it, and I’m really glad I did. This is another good one!

Narrator is even more familiar now that I’ve read all the books in the series up to this, plus book 13. There have been a few diff narrators through the series but if we had to settle on one from the group, I’d definitely choose this one! For the Harper books (Blue Moon novellas) I prefer the one who read Crop Circles.

The series starts out rough with book 1 but it is well worth sticking with it to let Higgs’ series evolve.

Tempest and Friends, Do It Again!

I really enjoy our humble, dog-loving, brilliant protagonist, Tempest Michaels. Big Ben and other friends, both old and new, and dear old Dad, also play majors parts in this adventure at the docks. The entire series is entertaining fun, and the only negative is the narrator for us Audible fans. Highly Recommended.
