About this listen

A recovering alcoholic’s dark secrets catch up with her in this gripping novel of psychological suspense from the internationally best-selling author of The Rumor.

“Instantly immersive, then intriguing, then insanely suspenseful, then...the truth. Believe me, Lesley Kara knows what she’s doing.” (Lee Child)

We said to keep it a secret, that no one needed to know.

Astrid is newly sober and trying to turn her life around. Having reluctantly moved back in with her mother, in a quiet seaside town away from the temptations and darkness of her previous life, she is focusing on her recovery. She’s going to meetings. Confessing her misdeeds. Making amends to those she’s wronged. If she fills her days, maybe she can outrun the ghosts that haunt her. Maybe she can start anew.

But someone is tormenting me now. Someone knows where I am and what I’ve done.

Someone knows exactly what Astrid is running from. And they won’t stop until she learns that some mistakes can’t be corrected. Some mistakes, you have to pay for....

The question is: Who did you tell?

Great story

Lots of twists and turns in this one! At times, it seemed that every character could be guilty of something. And, although I don’t have the affliction, I think it must explain and understand alcoholism or addiction in a very specific way. It quickly reached the point where I couldn’t put it down!

Twists till the end

It had a slow start that was hard to follow initially then once I started better understanding, I was hooked. I loved all the twists and it kept me on the edge of my seat… till the very end! Great listen!

Heartbreaking and Suspenseful

I found the writing about addiction to be powerful and I did not see some of the twists and turns coming that this story took. Job well done.

I loved it!

Reading through the reviews on this before getting the book as part of a "twofer," I noted that the reviews were divided; that only furthered my interest. This author writes like she knows a thing or two about a thing or two about alcoholism/addiction. Yes, some spots dragged, but having been new to sobriety before, it only made the story more authentic. The second half of the book nailed it! I'd spend the credit and the time!

I loved it

This book was just great. Such a good depiction of alcoholism
I loved the twists etc. I definitely recommend

The ending was worth the doom and gloom throughout the book.

Not worth the credit

Though I very much enjoyed the narrator, the story it's self wasn't good. Wish I would have saved the credit.

Surprisingly good!

I was all set to hate this one, but surprise! It was actually pretty good! It is true that the protagonist is very flawed and makes nothing but bad decisions over and over again. She dug her own grave with her constant lying, so it was hard to sympathize. The romance that develops is also heavy on the cheese, it was predictable and uninspired. Despite these obvious flaws, I still found this story to be entertaining and well-written. I found myself unable to stop listening and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. There are surprises and plot twists that will keep you intrigued right up to the very end. If you enjoy a good thriller set in a lovely English seaside town, give this one a try. I'd definitely recommend it!
