About this listen

With over 25 million books in print, best-selling author Amanda Quick is a favorite of readers who relish historical romances. In her works, including Mistress, Mischief, and Affair, Amanda Quick offers delicious romantic thrillers set in the opulent world of Regency-era London.

The widow Madeline Deveridge is both admired and feared by high society. Devastatingly beautiful, she is rumored to have killed her wealthy husband. Artemis Hunt is a handsome gentleman who is also a master of secret arts. His concentration on his own affairs is shattered, however, when Madeline demands his help one fog-shrouded night. Brought together by a mutual bargain - and a ghost - their bond sparks an attraction that will be far more dangerous than either suspects. Noted for her spirited performances of Amanda Quick’s novels, narrator Barbara Rosenblat captures each nuance of the two heroes’ intelligence and passion.

Love the story, liked the author in every book she wrote, but the narrator won’t QUIT AUDIBLY SWALLOWING AND SMACKING while reading. Mama didn’t raise no quitter, but for those of us with Misophonia, don’t even try it. Seriously. Read it. Save yourself.

Love the author, but the narrator…

Loved it

I really like the premise of the story but the development of the characters and their relationship was flat.
The reading was so hard to listen to as the narrator consistently was swallowing and making odd noises while reading. I feel like a lot of it could have been eliminated with better sound editing especially the long gaps between chapters. But swallowing and smacking should have been redone.

Not Quick’s Best

Is there anything you would change about this book?

uncharacteristically of an Amanda Quick book, this rather dragged. Madeline/the heroine was a worrywart and a drip.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the hero, but the heroine and her ghosts and dead husband did not really do it for me.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

no

not as good as usual for Ms. Quick

As any of Amanda Quick fans know if you like her stuff they are all good. I think Mistress is my favorite, I'm not as big fan of the Arcane society series. I don't like how she has a running series with all three of her pen names, I need to read books in order and this drives me crazy how it is all mixed up. This was a typical regency romance with a slight mystery involved. There were a few audio recording errors, a couple of times the lines repeated themselves at the beginning of the book. The first couple of times I thought I imagined it, but then they came more frequent as the story progressed. I've heard this narrator several times and knowing she isn't my favorite, I would still be willing to listen to her. She sounds like a smoker and sometimes you can hear her swallowing, this seems to be a problem she has with all books.

Amanda Quick does it again.

Terrific story, but the narrator volume would change so much that it became annoying and hard on my ears. She would drop off to a whisper at the end of almost every phrase so that you either had to turn up the volume or miss the end of each sentence..and then she would blast loudly into your ears at the beginning of the next sentence. Hope my ears aren’t permanently damaged!

Entertaining !

Great book. Enjoyed both written and narrated verzions. This particular narrator is one of the best I've listened to. Her voices are excellent and varied and easily recognizable between characters.

Again Amanda Quick had done a wonderful job with another suspenseful romance!
Lots of twists and turns!
Biggest problem again is with Narration done by Barbara Rosenblat!
Distracting the listener from the story ...is her constant SWALLOWING NOISES during the reading of book. Very annoying at times!
She does the voices well enough, but the audible swallowing sounds distract from the storyline!!! And are quit loud during audio version of book.
That really is the only bad part of listening to the last couple of Amanda Quick novels read by Barbara Rosenblat!
I just glad she finally switched the person who reads who newer books to someone else.

I'm not trying to be petty, but I listen to a lot of audio books and was relistening to the Vanza series and it was so darn noticeable, that it was distracting to the wonderful storyline.

Great story! Narration with audible SWALLOWING annoying!
