Publisher's summary

Behind her back, they call her "The Black Widow".

Daphne McNeil has been widowed four times in 10 years. Each time, her husbands have left her considerable sums of money. She finds that she must use these inheritances to support her beloved charities. The money does not go far enough, and with increasing financial pressures, she becomes desperate.

When Steve Johnson, a forensic scientist, discovers human remains in an isolated lake near Daphne’s drug and alcohol rehabilitation center, he unwittingly puts himself in danger.

He begins to suspect the beautiful widow is not as innocent as she seems. Will he become her next victim?

Not very realistic...

Not very realistic, which I could have get over if there were any suspense or intrigue, but alas! there wasn't any :(

I liked the premise of the story, but its execution was truly lacking. It's hard to believe that this woman would find four rich, smart and handsome men who were dying (quite literally!) to marry her and leave her all their money. But that ALL of them (except the first one) become monsters as soon as the honeymoon ended is a stretch I'm not willing to do. And I really don't understand why the author chooses to do that. Were we supposed to feel pity for her? Because, yeah, no. Fat chance of that happening. No matter how horrid your husband is, once you kill them all on cold blood I'm out of sympathy :P

Steve is a nice character, but once he too seems to fall under Daphne's spell all my respect for his intelligence went down the pipes. But at least the chapters about him were a bit more interesting.

The only redeeming feature of this story is Bill Nevitt's narration. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have finished this story if the narration hadn't been so good.

Widow's Luck

I enjoyed this one! Daphne is left a business by her father. To feed her wanderlust she leaves it in the hands of a man who does not take care of it.With careful marraiges she funds most of her endeavors.Sadly ,a lot of people die in her world. Bill Nevitt was a good narrator. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.'

Black widow - coincidence or convenience?

Daphne is known as the black widow. Her four husbands in the last 10 years have passed away leaving her with loads of money. Coincidence or convenience?

I did not enjoy this book. It was all over the place, unrealistic and mismatched. At the end, i was left unsatisfied as i felt the story didnt really finish. The mood was all over the place and i didnt feel that the various elements of the story fit together. African orphans, widows, rehab, scams, murders, etc. They just felt so far fetched and disconnected. I also found i couldnt connect with the main character.

I liked the part about the investigation (the last part of the book) and how the story was told from two points of view that eventually converge. I really liked the narrator's performance. He does really well with distinct voices and good accents for the characters.

Note: This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this objective review voluntarily.

Widow's Luck

I had such a had time finishing this book. The narrator Bill Nevitt is the only reason I was able to finish the book. Bill does a wonderful job of narrating this book but the book is so boring. The characters were so one dimensional and just boring. I was gifted this audiobook with the understanding that I would leave an honest review.

Beautiful Widow or Black Widow?

Widow's Luck by Lin Welch is full of possibilities. Is Daphne really unlucky in being widowed four times in ten years, or a manipulator. I really enjoyed how the author spun this tale. I could envision so many details listening to Bill Nevitt. He adds the right tone and emotions to his voice. Without giving away spoilers, I found the book to be great!

She’s a black widow

4 star review for Widows Luck
The story of Daphne, a woman with good intentions to help orphans in Africa becomes desperate for money. The story follows Daphne over several year’s and several wealthy husbands until she meets Steve a Forensic Scientist. I would have rated five stars but the end seems rushed as it does end abruptly.

Bill Nevitt Media gives a 5 star performance moving in and out of characters seemlessly. He brings the story to life with so much emotion.

A Black Widow.

Widow's Luck.
I would have given this 5 stars, only the ending was rushed and the author could've tied it up better.
Still very good entertainment.
The narration is good. and easy to listen too.

Widow's Luck

Daphne McNeil loves her charity work. She gives everything she has to her charities. Literally.
Daphne McNeil has been married and widowed 4 times in 10 years. Each of the men she'd married left her with rather large inheritances. But still the money never seemed to go far enough.

Steve Johnson, forensic scientist takes a long overdue and much needed vacation. He enjoys solitude and fresh air. Then the bodies start popping up.

Bill Nevitt, on my top 5 list of narrators, does an amazing job.

Great narration, little else

Widow's Luck, my first read/listen from author Lin Weich. Wandering and disjointed, the promise of the book was there, but undelivered. Even Bill Nevitt’s narration, as always, excellent and couldn't save the book, in fact, it was his excellence in narration that attracted me to the book and an author I was unfamiliar with and made the 7-hour 50-minute mystery/suspense bearable. I don't see me reading this author again.. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
