Alandra Michaels is your everyday, run-of-the-mill, ordinary witch. She doesn't have an affinity for an element, like her sister. She can't speak to the dead, like her mother. Even her familiar - Beezelbub the moth - is a plain, non-threatening insect. Alandra is fine with that; she knows what she is and what she isn't.
Or so she thought...
When a spell goes wrong and a gorgeous woman shows up in her living room claiming to be the Moon, everything changes for Alandra and her magical abilities will be put to the test.
Can she reverse the spell and send Luna back to her realm?
Celestials never go to Earth anymore. When witches figured out they could harness their energy for ultimate power, celestials closed the doors to their own realms.
When a beautiful young witch accidentally summons Luna to Earth, the clock begins ticking. Can she make it home before she's sacrificed for her power?
Will she even want to?

Lately I have been really really disappointed in lesfic literature due to increasing number of novels that contradict themselves, cast weak characers, tell boring stories, or the characters and their actions are just so fictional that nothing is believable, or some combination of the four. I'll be honest, when I picked this gem up, it wasn't for the author or the summary, it was because Lori Prince and Melissa Moran were the narrators, I had no idea who Poppy Woods was at the time and I wasn't at all familiar with her writing, to my astonishment, she is the rawest writer I've had the pleasure of reading.
Why did I rate the story highly?
The story is predictable, it is SO predictable BUT a cliche story is not a bad story, it was straightforward and the author absolutely knew where it was going. I found it fun and endearing by the end, there was no lull in the story and it felt like I was continuously going instead of feeling like I had to trudge through mud to get to anything substantial. Also, when sci-fi and fantasy stuff is intertwined with contemporary stories, I usually cringe, however, it was natural to use words and phrases like "fire magic," it wasn't forced and it was just thrown into a normal conversation without having to delve too deeply into the machinations of how magic works.
Now my absolute favorite part of the book were the characters, my god I LOVED Alandra, she is a freaking badass, takes no shit, speaks her mind, and is strong even though she's "powerless." Even though she speaks her mind, she's still scared of things that we're all scared of such as: relationships and family expectations, she can be shy, non confrontational, and very emotional at times like those. IT WAS SO REFRESHING, my god, please write more characters like her!!!
Luna, goodness, luna is amazing too, she's strong and wise and loves very very fiercely. She's not scared to exercise her awesome power when making a point or when someone she cares about is in danger. She's funny and otherworldly but she still likes stuff like coffee. It was cute when she interacts with Alandra and funny when she puts people in their places, she was a very big character written to be as human as possible without actually being human.
The other characters are well written and they also deal with very real problems. They cuss and curse and throw tantrums. They call each other out when one of them do stupid things. It is just such a big breath of fresh air to have characters who know when and when not to hold back.
For all the praise I give this story, I have two problems with the story, however.
1. The relationship buildup between the two leads could've been longer, it felt like the fell into it pretty quick.
2. I wanted to hear more of Luna's perspective.
otherwise, everything else was good and I had no questions by the end of the book.
Narration: I enjoyed both narrators but... I don't think Melissa Moran was needed in this lol. Not because she was bad in any sort of way, she is always fantastic, but the parts where she does interject is few and far between. 90% of the story is narrated by Lori Prince and it's funny because they both have different takes on how Luna sounds like. I felt like Luna was a very different character when read by Melissa rather than when she is read by Lori, I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing but it was different. Both did very good and I ALWAYS enjoy books narrated by either of them.
Overall: I WHOLE HEARTEDLY SUPPORT THIS AUTHOR AND THIS BOOK, BUY IT, BUY IT NOW!!!
Now that you've bought it, I hope you will enjoy this supernatural romance that transcends space and time and come to love the badass women that live in this novel just as I have. I can't wait for something else by Poppy Woods and I would love an exploration into the Witching Moon universe as well.
SO REFRESHING!!!
