About this listen

Lt. Mellie Blake is looking forward to beginning her training as a flight nurse. She is not looking forward to writing a letter to a man she’s never met - even if it is anonymous and part of a morale-building program. Lt. Tom MacGilliver, an officer stationed in North Africa, welcomes the idea of an anonymous correspondence - he’s been trying to escape his infamous name for years.

As their letters crisscross the Atlantic, Tom and Mellie develop a unique friendship despite not knowing the other’s true identity. When both are transferred to Algeria, the two are poised to meet face-to-face for the first time. Will they overcome their fears and reveal who they are? Or will their future be held hostage by their pasts?

Combining a flair for romance with excellent research and attention to detail, Sarah Sundin vividly brings to life the perilous challenges of WWII aviation, nursing - and true love.

Critic reviews

"I love the nostalgia and drama of the WWII era. No one takes me back there better than Sarah Sundin. With Every Letter is a beautiful love story and has everything you want in a novel: romance, suspense, and characters you care about from the very first page. A marvelous beginning for her new series. I can’t wait to read the next book." (Dan Walsh, award-winning and best-selling author of The Discovery)

Enjoyed every minute

This is a historically well researched book and a fantastic love story. It's nice to find a captivating story that is written with Christian values. I'm a busy mom with young kids and haven't read a book in a long time, but with the audio feature I "read" the whole book while exercising. Took a few months, but it was fun to be entertained while working out.

An excellent and entertaining WWII story.

Another successful and enlightening story by Sarah Sundin. This book involves the flight nurses, some pilots, and the engineering corps. Sarah Sundin tells her WWII stories very well backed up by her extensive research.

WW1 Hist. Fiction/Flight Nurses

Would you listen to With Every Letter again? Why?

No, but I would definitely listen the first time.
The story line & time & location were very interesting, if you enjoy historical fiction and nursing. It seemed that the author dragged out some of the situations for too long. There are times you find yourself wanting to strangle the main character because of this.

It's a good story, though. I learned how ordinary citizens were used during the war, and how air fields were built as the Army advanced. It was interesting to see how nurses were viewed during that time, and how hard it was to convince some doctors and military men of how helpful they could be.

It was a good picture of how we can incorrectly perceive situations as a child or adult, and let that color our reactions the rest of our lives. It's a good picture of how difficult it is to obediently forgive others, but how that pays off in our life and the lives of all those around us.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The dog was fun.

What about Kate Rudd’s performance did you like?

She has a nice voice.

If you could rename With Every Letter, what would you call it?

Don't Ever Give Up

Any additional comments?

I'm sort of surprised an editor didn't encourage the author to condense some of the drawn-out struggles of the character, but maybe it was just me.

Love this book!

This is the second time I have read this book and the first time I have listened to it. It is truly one of the most romantic stories I have ever read, and Mellie and Tom are so dear to my heart. I love it even more the second time around and I rarely read a book twice. I give it my highest recommendation:)
