About this listen

A primer on modern feminism for the Instagram generation encouraging us to question the insidious narratives that would hold us back from self-acceptance, self-love, and our own power. With her refreshingly audacious voice, Florence Given explores all corners of the conversation, from overcoming insecurity projection and the tendency to find comfort in other women’s flaws to how to recognize and fight against the male gaze and other toxic cultural baggage and embracing sex and body positivity. Women Don’t Owe You Pretty is here to remind us that everyone is valuable as they are, and we owe the world nothing, least of all pretty.

liberal coming of age self help book

I would recommend this book for somebody in there early to mid-twenties who wants there to understand Basic modern feminist ideas.

Every woman should read this

Staggering wisdom coming from someone so young. Not trying to be ageist. I’m old enough to be her momma, and I’m just now figuring out a lot of what Florence Given wrote here at the tender age of 21. I wish to hell I could go back in time over 30 years and beat my teenage self over the head with this book. It would have saved so much pain and self-flagellation over the years from not being thin enough, delicate enough, feminine enough, and, yes, dumb enough.

I do LOVE men. So much. Especially my own partner. But it’s good to finally get it through my head that I’m not decorative and I was put here for so much more than to just be an object of their sexual desire.

Way to go, Floss. You’re my new shero.

Florence’s authenticity

I’m blown away by the unabashed authenticity Florence offers in this book. It was both empowering and educational.

Frankness and educational

I love Florence’s frankness as well as ground level education regarding current volitile topics. I also appreciate her reminders to me as a queer pansexual woman to not sell myself short in relationships.
