About this listen

A surprise attack. No technology. No nothing.

A deadly EMP obliterates the nation's power grid.

The survivors must rely on themselves, their courage, and wit, while enduring horrific hardships.

Joe Buck is on a collision course with a life-altering event. He’ll need to rely on his skills to survive the catastrophic EMP about to unfold as he’s working behind the scenes at his blue collar job at the Super Bowl. Breakout country singer and small-town girl Lexi Carter is on the same trajectory. She has just finished singing a well-received rendition of the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. It’s 5:23 p.m. and Ethan Crossfield, the lead pilot of the Blue Angels, has NRG Stadium in his sights, packed with thousands of people as he streaks across the sky at mind-numbing speeds, moments before his flyover.

The crowd is raucous.

The performances were meticulously rehearsed, finely tuned down to the second, and should have gone off without a hitch. Except for one surprise glitch: an EMP.

During the chaos and the ensuing struggle to survive, society collapses faster than expected, and an unlikely hero emerges, unknowingly stalked by powerful and ruthless people willing to kill at all costs to maintain the secrecy of their diabolical plot.

Find out who is left standing in this fast-paced and thrilling first installment in the World on Edge series.

See It Through

Don't get butt-hurt about animalactivist. Characters take time to develop. Decent EMP apocalypse story.

So Many Holes

I listened to a lot Chris's books. This one has a lot of holes. One "scene" in particular is when Joe and Lexi are attacked. Joe kicks a guy in the stomach and you never hear about him again...did he get up and run...did he die? Then Joe fights some.thugs on the way to Zoo, shoves a knife in his eye. Chris writes, he looked around for weapons and found none? You pull the knife from his eye.

Then the narration...his inflection on regular conversations...he tried to make mundane conversations sound dramatic.

Not Chris's best...

Loved

I loved this book by Chris Pike. I also loved the characters. I can’t wait for the next book in this series. I would recommend this book and all of this Chris’ books. I listened to this book on audiobook.

Terrible. Unlistenable.

Overly formal and clunky verbiage.
It’s so bad no matter how many times I go back to try and listen, I can’t stomach it.

The story could be good if the writer had half a clue

I couldn’t finish it.

I really wanted to like this book. Previous works by this author have been good. Unfortunately, this sounds like it was written by AI at a fourth grade level. I couldn’t even finish it. The narrator was also stilted and awkward.

Horrible narrator, worse story!

I only made it about an hour. This is the worst narrator I’ve heard. The story itself is laughable at best. Corny dialogue and stupid cliches like the guy walks into a bar full of oil rig dudes and changes the juke box. And in a ridiculous attempt to sound gruff he says “I’m in the mood for some rock roll!” Bar fight ensues. Yeah, it’s that bad! Gonna try to return this ignorant, childish drivel for my credit back.
