About this listen

Have you ever desired, deep within your soul, to make a comfortable full-time living from a farming enterprise? Too often people dare not even vocalize this desire because it seems absurd. It's like thinking the unthinkable.

After all, the farm population is dwindling. It takes too much capital to start. The pay is too low. The working conditions are dusty, smelly and noisy: Not the place to raise a family. This is all true, and more, for most farmers.

But for farm entrepreneurs, the opportunities for a farm family business have never been greater. The aging farm population is creating cavernous niches begging to be filled by creative visionaries who will go in dynamic new directions. As the industrial agriculture complex crumbles and our culture clambers for clean food, the countryside beckons anew with profitable farming opportunities.

While this audiobook can be helpful to all farmers, it targets the wannabes, the folks who actually entertain notions of living, loving and learning on a piece of land. Anyone willing to dance with such a dream should be able to assess its assets and liabilities; its fantasies and realities. "Is it really possible for me?" is the burning question this audiobook addresses.

You Can Farm is wonderfully narrated by the author, Joel Salatin, who co-owns (with his family) Polyface Farm in Swoope, Virginia.

Easy to understand!

Joel laid out very simple plans that I feel I can replicate. I ordered all his books from his website.

The best.

Every want-to-be farmer or struggling-to-make-ends-meet farmer should read this book. The game has changed and Joel gives you the recipe to make a white collar salary farming (hint: it has nothing to to with ‘conventional agriculture’).

Reading now in 2021 this book is as relevant as when it was written in the late 90’s. Joel’s foresight is proved out and the trends pushing profitable farming in this direction have only strengthened.

Great value!

Ive often heard Joel talk about Biodynamics and basics like, happy healthy animals make healthy delicious food, but to hear him go in depth on the marketing and economics that go into farming just goes to show how well rounded and experienced Joel is. This book is full of great applicable info that doesn't have to stay within a farm context!

Excellent Information.

This man has a very straightforward and practical approach.

There was so much good information here I don't know where to start, so I won't.

If you're interested in taking a more hands-on approach to controlling where your food comes from, this book should be in your list of reference material.

He touches on everything from philosophy to marketing. I have learned a ton from my first listen-through, and it won't be the last.

Thank you Mr. Salatin.

Has relevant in 2021 then 1998

I think a few concept could be updated since the internet has changed marketing so much. But the main idea is probably more relevant today then 20 years ago. I think this book is highly inspirational and has great concepts that can be further explored. It is a general book that is meant for people without a farming background.
