About this listen

Twenty years ago, Joel Salatin wrote You Can Farm, which has launched thousands of farm entrepreneurs around the world. With another 20 years of experience under his belt, bringing him to the half-century mark as a full-time farmer, he decided to build on that foundation with a sequel, a graduate-level curriculum.

Everyone who reads (or listens to), and enjoys that previous work, will benefit from this additional information. In those 20 years, Polyface Farm progressed from a small family operation to a 20-person, 6,000-customer, 50-restaurant business, all without sales targets, government grants, or an off-farm nest egg.

As a germination tray for new farmers ready to take over the 50 percent of America's agricultural equity that will become available over the next two decades, Polyface Farm in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley stands as a beacon of hope in a food and farming system floundering in dysfunction: toxicity, pathogenicity, nutrient deficiency, bankruptcy, geezers, and erosion. Speaking into that fear and confusion, Salatin offers a pathway to success, with production, profit, and pleasure thrown in for good measure. This audio edition is wonderfully narrated by the author.

Great Content So, So Presentation

The content in this audiobook is great. I'm sure anyone interested in this farming niche will find it useful. I have to say though, the performance & editing(?) are noticeably lacking at times. I think its great when an author narrates their own non-fiction work. Joel is charming & knowledgeable but at the same time, he fumbles & even restarts sentences. Take it with a big grain of salt as I'm ignorant to the voice-over world: I don't think anyone would find this performance acceptable from anyone except for the author. It's borderline unprofessional. On top of the performance is the jarring editing. There are very obvious cuts, sometimes just for a few words at the end of a sentence, where Joel's voice is a completely different tone. There was also a section in Chapter 7 where 2 different tracks we playing over each other. Very strange.

Overall it's worth a listen if you're interested in homesteading or farming but the presentation isn't top-notch.

Joel does it again!

I now own all four of Joel’s Audible audiobooks. I just wish all his numerous books were available as an audiobook!

He’s a great narrator… who better to tell the story than the man who lived it?? This book will be a great resource for me. I live about 90 minutes from Polyface and have had the pleasure of visiting several times. This man knows how to work a farm by stacking his various enterprises. With all he manages to accomplish, you’d figure the place must be much larger than it is (I think it’s several hundred acres). If you want to learn how it’s done, just listen up!

Joel in your pocket

This is a treasure trove of life experiences and horse sense. Perfect follow up to you can farm. I hope he can write at least one more in say 20 years.

Excellent practical advise

Love anything by Joel Salatin. He’s down to earth, realistic, and has been doing regenerative farming since before it was a thing.

Joel Salatin does it again…

I’ve gotten so much out of all his books, and I can now add Your Successful Farm Business to that list.
An exceptional and enthusiastic communicator, Joel’s engaging writings draw you in- provoke thought and sometime challenge ideas and processes you hadn’t considered or never viewed under his unique scrutiny.
We need more minds and hearts like his out there to help draw the world toward a better, healthier, happier reality.
