Story
We may not be in a recession, but there is nowhere you can hide that's guaranteed earthquake-proof against your own personal recession. The day can come when you step into your boss' or banker's office some Friday afternoon and hear, "I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but..." It's not going to be easy, no matter how well prepared you are. But it's going to be a lot harder if you're like the 90 percent of us who aren't prepared when the bomb falls. And it can happen to anyone, anytime.

Story
Years ago, after suffering a humiliatingly large dumb tax, it dawned on me that I have a seemingly unlimited ability to hit unforced errors and sabotage my business and financial success. I suspect you do, too. It turns out that the key to getting rich (and staying that way) is to avoid doing stupid things. I don't need to do more smart things. I just need to make fewer dumb mistakes. The vast majority of our dumb tax is a direct result of emotional, overly optimistic, and poorly thought out decisions.

Good, But Not His Best
Harvey Mackay’s first books were his best. This one contains a lot of good stuff, but after about halfway through, I find it very hard to stomach all the clichéd, overused sayings and the incessant name dropping. Harvey, is there any public figure who is not your “close personal friend?” I’m not impressed by the name dropping, but rather by your years of leadership experience and what you have to offer. Stick to that. Those who seek to impress, rarely do. Your first books didn’t name drop or use hackneyed sayings we’ve all heard many times. They just had good honest hard-earned advice.

Basic, actionable wisdom
Every great band has a greatest hits album. Harvey has blessed us with incredible wisdom over the years and this is the icing on the cake. So grateful that I read all of his previous books but if I could only read one this is it. How lucky we are that he put all of this down for us to use.
