About this listen

Behind our stress, clutter, and confusion is an infinitely spacious place one might call stillness or joy. This is our natural state of being, but we usually don’t experience it, because we are caught in a web of material possessions, desires, and fears.

Our clutter often becomes another member of the family that we feed, house, and lug around. In Your Spacious Self, author and professional space clearing expert Stephanie Bennett Vogt shows us that it’s not our stuff but the holding on to it that creates a force field of stuck-ness that clouds our perceptions and paralyzes our lives.

Clutter is not just the junk spilling out of the closet. It is any thing or thought that prevents us from experiencing who we truly are. With daily tips, meditations, and a decluttering checklist, Your Spacious Self will show you how to:

  • Clear the clutter in your home and in your life
  • Revel in your own spaciousness, a place of stillness and joy
  • Let go of the people, places, and things that no longer serve the joyous being that you are

Radical in its message and elegant in its simplicity, Your Spacious Self offers a new model that combines the ancient wisdom of space clearing with the modern practicality of clutter clearing. It teaches us that clearing is not just something we do but is also a powerful way to be - one small step, drawer, or moment at a time.

The missing piece!

I loved this book because it really looks at the emotional/spiritual aspect of decluttering. I was getting stuck in those areas and looking at the emotional part as weather was really helpful. I absolutely recommend this book! A very appreciated puzzle piece in my decluttering puzzle 💕

it is a self healing book

Would you consider the audio edition of Your Spacious Self to be better than the print version?

I have ordered print version from Amazon as well, I like the book so much. I like to listen more than reading so it is better for me

What other book might you compare Your Spacious Self to and why?

This is very unique book. I have gone through many self healing books for trauma, love, finding my talent within. they are all good books. But Your Spacious Self really did the trick for me. I would say it is "The artist way", "finding the one", "Dying to be me" all combined. It is like holding my hand everyday, tell me how to get to where I want to be. I am only in the first few chapters (I listen to each chapter 3 times and more) I already know I found my book. I am compelled to write Stephanie a thank you letter. The book made me laugh and made me cry, mostly, it got me motivated finally to do the cleaning I have been wanting to do for years. Maybe it was other books that built the foundation for me. I love all of the books I mentioned, but I am so happy that I just randomly found this one, and became best friend with it.

What about Laural Merlington’s performance did you like?

There is humor in her voice, I laughed.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

feel and see the blue sky for the first time

Any additional comments?

Thank you for writing this book, it is saving/changing my life.

touchy-feely

If you want to commune with your inner self, this is for you. I prefer the more practical Konmari books (a method that really works) and Clutter Busting by Brooks Palmer.

Speaks directly to who I am today.

Would you listen to Your Spacious Self again? Why?

This is the most helpful book I've come across about changing your life by looking at your relationship to the things around you. Very helpful. I got both the printed and audiobook and have read and listened multiple times.

Any additional comments?

Highly recommend. Put away all those other organization manuals and start at the root cause of your clutter and stress.

Disappointed

Actually thought this book would help with a decluttering plan of action. Every now and then the author does offer something useful or observant. But for me much of it felt like New Age pop psychology (including unfamiliar terms) and navel-gazing. Maybe if these aspects were 20% of the content, but not 80-90%, as it seems.

Waste of time

What would have made Your Spacious Self better?

This story could have been more about what to do then how to think. It felt as if the author was on a brag fest more than other similar books.

Has Your Spacious Self turned you off from other books in this genre?

This book is hopefully an anomaly and will not change my desires to explore this genre.

Any additional comments?

My wife and I tried to wait for the nuggets, after 2 hours we decided that silence was more enriching than the message being spewed.

Too airy fairy

Would you try another book from Stephanie Bennett Vogt and/or Laural Merlington?

No, When choosing this book I did not suspect from the written description that it would be a matter of getting in touch with myself to live a simple, uncluttered life. I can handle a bit of that but it seemed to go on and on( kept dozing) and I just don't have patience for it. The narrator was a bit more theatrical than I care for. Just the facts ma'am. I prefer meat and potatoes in my how to's. I may have missed the opportunity of a life time here but just couldn't connect with this concept.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Not sure...

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Laural Merlington?

No suggestions.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment, It wasn't what I expected.

Book gets off topic - not enough about clutter

Book doesn’t stay on the topic of clutter, instead it goes off on tangents. Disappointing.
