About this listen

Most of us know we own too much stuff. We feel the weight and burden of our clutter, and we tire of cleaning and managing and organizing. While excess consumption leads to bigger houses, faster cars, fancier technology, and cluttered homes, it never brings happiness. Rather, it results in a desire for more. It redirects our greatest passions to things that can never fulfill, and it distracts us from the very lives we wish we were living. But it doesn't have to be this way.

In The More of Less, Joshua Becker helps you:

  • Recognize the life-giving benefits of owning less
  • Realize how all the stuff you own is keeping you from pursuing your dreams
  • Craft a personal, practical approach to decluttering your home and life
  • Experience the joys of generosity
  • Learn why the best part of minimalism isn't a clean house; it's a full life

It's time to own your possessions instead of letting them own you. After all, the beauty of minimalism isn't in what it takes away. It's in what it gives.

Not what I expected.

I was excited to find inspiration for downsizing and living smaller.
What I got was a minister constantly referring to his faith and quoting bible verses.

A bit too much religion

His youtube videos etc are great. But the book pushes too much Christianity for my taste.

I wish he would in-cooperate other religious views like those in Buddhism.

All in all it would be a great book- but it just doesn't fit to me without a religious background.

Some good tips for getting rid of clutter, but...

Where does The More of Less rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Maybe in the bottom of the middle third.

What other book might you compare The More of Less to and why?

Can't really think of one off the top of my head, so let's just say any book in the "clutter removal" genre.

Which character – as performed by Joshua Becker – was your favorite?

Only one character, himself.

What did you learn from The More of Less that you would use in your daily life?

Good ideas, such as if you're not sure whether you want to get rid of something box it up for 90 days and revisit it after that time. I was really just looking for a little inspiration to keep going with my quest to get rid of as many possessions as I can.

Any additional comments?

Some terrible personal financial advice. Becker suggests to pay your favorite charities first so you don't miss the money from your paycheck. There wasn't any context such as "if you're on track for retirement and have an emergency fund and no credit card debt, etc..." This advice seemed very irresponsible.

Perfect to listen to while decluttering

I really enjoyed this as an audiobook because as I listened I could be working on decluttering! It’s like having a very inspirational friend with you while you work and is far less expensive than hiring an organizer to keep you company and inspire you.

Loved the narration!

Author's voice was smoothe. I enjoyed his faith factor. Very easy listen and I am going to get his other books as well.

Motivational

Great motivational speaker. Not the “how to” I was looking for. Well done and inspiring. Influential mindset.

Inspiring Read!

Enjoyed listening to this book thoroughly with my husband while on a road trip. Joshua's pleasant, heartfelt delivery of this fine message of simplifying our lives resonated with us. Practical real life experiences along with documented data adds substance to this book. We would highly recommend this book for anyone searching for a simpler, more satisfying life not based on material possessions.

Thank you!

Permission to let go of totes of stuff I haven’t used in over 20 years. Listening to this audio book WHILE decluttering and minimizing was invaluable. Every item that left/leaves my house makes me feel lighter & happier! I’m ready to pursue better things than buying and storing possessions.

Needed when you make the decision to change.

"Things will never change unless YOU become that change." This is a great book when you've either finally made the decision, or need help making the decision, to remove all your distractions and persue those passions that make life worth living.

Nice introduction to minimalism

This is a thought provoking book. Not sure if I’m convinced to live the lifestyle, but plan on taking baby steps in the less is more direction.
