Publisher's summary

Success means something different for everyone. For Bill Rancic, it meant taking the things he loved, like coming up with exciting ideas and never working a 9-to-5 job, and translating that into a profitable business. By the time he was thirty, he'd achieved every goal he set for himself by creating an online cigar company from scratch and then using those profits to begin a venture in real estate.

Then an opportunity came by he just couldn't pass up, a competition to test his own personal drive and street smarts against a talented pool of professional salesmen, marketers, and MBAs, where the prize was working side by side with the master of the deal himself, Donald Trump.

Being on The Apprentice made Bill Rancic an overnight celebrity. But his winning strategies were developed long before that, and in You're Hired, he uses examples from his own life to prove that the secrets of success can be found within us all.

Critic reviews

"For a loquacious 'how-I-did-it', Rancic's book debut is surprisingly satisfying." (Publishers Weekly)

Advice ok but not great

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

No

What didn’t you like about Bill Rancic’s performance?

I think he should have hired a pro rather than read it himself. Audio quality was not good.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Not..too long.

Any additional comments?

Most of the book is devoted to the “business of business,” and the author explains the principles that have guided him along the way .I found his advice pretty average overall…nothing game changing but it was interesting and his comments about the show were certainly interesting. Overall, a decent read but not great.

Road map for would be entrepreneurs

Rancic recounts how he succeeded in his cigar business in a step by step fashion that would be invaluable for any entrepreneur starting or already struggling with their small/medium size business.

Lots of books give you high level advice on which directions to go, but leaves you hanging at the end of the book without any specific actions that you can take to put the theories into practice. Rancic's book, however, gives you specific examples of what to do so you can apply them in your business tomorrow.

Highly recommended.

Good change of pace book.

A decent book that goes a little into the author's life, a little into The Apprentice, and a little into his business savy and secrets. The result is a nice light reading (or listening) book that entertains. Recommend for a change of pace book between heavy reading or very long audiobooks.

A good listen missing that little bit extra

Having been a fan of "The Apprentice" and of business people's biographies and autobiographies I decided to give this book a listen. While sounding similar to Trump's _Art Of the Deal_ in tone and content Rancic's reading was easy to listen to and the lessons to learn are solid one's that any one can use a gentle reminder of. The stories told of the original businesses that Rancic started up are fast paced and lacked the description that I would have preferred. Rancic's descriptions of business instincts being something that can not be taught but simply one has or doesn't have has clear effects on the description of decisions made and the general writing of this book. This is a sharp contrast to Louis V. Gerstner's _Who Says Elephants Can't Dance?_ where one received a description of the thought process that went into major decisions like his decision to take the job and major changes to IBM's infrastructure. That stated Rancic does provide ample examples as to how he learned strategies which he used in the first season of "The Apprentice" like the renting of space on rigshaws and the preparation that he made prior going into the live finale's boardroom debate. Interesting points that in my mind showed that he was the right choice for the Trump Organization.

Overall Rancic provided an easy to listen to book with interesting points of business acumen. I personally believe that as Trump's second book showed more of the process rather than the history of past successes that Rancic should move in this general direction if he chooses to write again.

Definitely worth listening to

More than worth your money. The most impactful and fascinating thing about this book is how you will see Bill's mental approach to anything. His thinking style is so effective. I think those who listen to it will walk away with something more than they expect. "Consider your options", "maximize your opportunity" and "minimize your losses".... these are greatly illustrated in this book, one example after another.

Any so called "young" go-getter will learn a lot from listening to this. But I also strongly believe it is a great read for any so-called "old", experienced chap who's been around the block as Bill's modern approach may open up a better understanding in very fast paced world.

Effectiveness is key to bring us the results we want.

Grab this audiobook. The pace is great and the content is gold. Walk away golden.

a dreamer builds his dream, so can we

I am a big fans of Apprentice, the show has inspired me, I never thought I can start a business until I saw the show.

Bill stood out as an honest and smart, articulate guy, and I am excited to find his book. His book has not disappointed me as I think he gave very sincere review of how he came about. He did humbly admit on his luck for his hard work, he is very positive, funny, and encouraging. A path of building your dream life is not easy, and this guy gave me great advice and encouragement with his book. Thanks Bill
I am listening to the book for the second time now. Never hurt to hear how a dream reached his dream.

A book for beginners...

If you already work as entrepreneur, skip this book. It wasted my time more or less completely.
