Youth in Revolt brings us the journals of Nick Twisp, California's most precocious diarist, whose ongoing struggles to make sense out of high school, deal with his divorced parents, and lose his virginity result in his transformation from an unassuming 14-year-old to a modern youth in open revolt.
As his family splinters, worlds collide, and the police block all routes out of town, Nick must cope with economic deprivation, homelessness, the gulag of the public schools, a competitive type A father, murderous canines (in triplicate), and an inconvenient hair trigger on his erectile response - all while vying ardently for the affections of the beauteous Sheeni Saunders, teenage goddess and ultimate intellectual god.

Paul Michael Garcia (the voice) sounds like a Computer reading words one at a time, over annunciating the wrong points and rolling words like he is in a bad Shakespeare in the park play...
This story is ALL Nick Twisp... and it was necessary to find a person who embodied this confused, vulnerable and evolving character. This readers speak and spell reading style is not the correct casting.
Love the book, hated the reading

Any additional comments?
As they put Michael Cera’s face on the cover, shouldn't they have had him read this? While the narrator did a good job, I wonder if the punch lines would have hit better if Cera read this as he had played Nick Twisp.I was greatly disappointed in how I didn't find this as humorous as the movie adaptation of the book. There are no plans for me to read the other books in this series.
If you have not seen the movie, I suggest you do so, but only AFTER reading the book. It has always been common for me to enjoy a movie and then research if there was a book (not a novelization) available for me. Once I’ve read the book, I’ll sometimes go back and mentally fill in the story gaps. But that is mostly due to the book being so much more than the movie ever could be. In this case, I don’t suggest reading the book after seeing the movie. You might be as disappointed as I am.
It was bound to happen…
