Im Zirkus Donelli ist eine ansteckende Krankheit ausgebrochen - die Faulheit. Keiner will mehr arbeiten. Die Elefanten nicht, die Affen nicht, die Pudel nicht - wie soll nun die Vorstellung laufen? Gegen Faulheit ist anscheinend kein Kraut gewachsen. Juri und Janka versuchen mit einigen anderen Tieren die Vorstellung zu retten. Sie lassen sich eine ganze Menge einfallen, um die anderen Tiere zu ersetzen. Und der Zirkusdirektor weiß von nichts.

Ein kleiner namenloser Bär, der als Waisenkind aufgewachsen ist, fällt während einer Zugfahrt aus dem Waggon und muss sich von nun an alleine zurechtfinden. Er macht sich auf die Suche nach einem neuen Zuhause. Und da trifft er Janka, ein Bärenmädchen, das gerade Verstecken spielt. Zwischen den beiden Bären bahnt sich eine Freundschaft an.

"Die neuen Pferde aus Spanien sind ganz schön eingebildet", denken Juri und Janka, die beiden Bärenkinder. Und sie haben nicht ganz Unrecht, denn die beiden Pferde mögen keine Kinder. Dabei wollen sich die beiden Bärenkinder doch nur das funkelnde Halsband anschauen, das die Stute trägt. Und Krach machen darf man in ihrer Nähe auch nicht. Dann wird auch noch der schönste Stein aus dem Halsband gestohlen! Ob Juri und Janka helfen können?

Im Zirkus Donelli taucht ein Waschbär auf. Er heißt Nicky Naseweis und ist ein alter Freund von Käpt'n Quasselbacke, dem Papagei. Nicky erzählt merkwürdige Geschichten aus Käpt'n Quasselbackes dunkler Vergangenheit und sorgt damit für einige Unruhen. Kann man ihm glauben? Juri ist sich da nicht so sicher. Außerdem geschehen noch andere seltsame Dinge: Immer häufiger verschwinden die Requisiten der Zirkustiere auf unerklärliche Weise.

Große Aufregung bei Familie Bromjoschkin: Tante Fulda und Klein-Arthur kommen zu Besuch. Juri bekommt einen Ball geschenkt, und schon ist die schönste Eifersuchtsszene im Gange. Und zu allem Überfluss will Arthur auch noch auf den gefährlichen Bahngleisen spielen. Das hat Papa Fedor doch verboten! Ein neues Abenteuer für die beiden Bärenkinder Juri und Janka beginnt.

In der neuen Stadt haben es Juri und Janka, die beiden Bärenkinder, diesmal mit einem kleinen Nilpferd zu tun, das aus dem Zoo fortgelaufen ist und sich im Zirkus eingeschlichen hat. Hier im Zirkus ist wenigstens was los! Doch das abenteuerlustige Nilpferd bringt beinahe alles durcheinander und platzt abends sogar in die Zirkusvorstellung! Wie das wohl alles enden wird?
