Wealthy and privileged, Allison has lived a comfortable and boring life. But it's a life full of secrets, too. When she finally admits that she's ready to walk on the wild side, she makes her confession to the one person who has the experience to make all of her fantasies a reality. As handsome and roguish Todd challenges Allison to a less-than-innocent game of poker, she recklessly bets it all - herself included - and gives Todd everything he needs to relieve her of her "good girl" guilt.

Allison, a snobby rich girl who has been raised to be a miniature version of her snobby rich parents, has a secret: She wishes for all the experiences that her lifestyle has kept her from having. Especially the sexual ones. When she drunkenly admits this secret to roguish, lower class, scholarship student Todd, several years older than her and much more experienced with life and sex, she finds herself caught up in a whirlwind of fantasy.

Having embraced her deepest fantasies in an all-or-nothing game with Todd, Allison struggles to regain her composure when he leaves her heartbroken and alone. She’s determined to play the hand she was dealt, which means holding her head high and keeping up appearances for the sake of her family’s expectations. As she gets back in the game with Roger and moves in with her friend Diana, her painful past slowly becomes manageable. Asserting her independence certainly helps. But dating someone who would have been perfect for the old Allison just isn’t her idea of moving on.

It will take more than blind luck to turn this game around. When Allison reunites with Todd, the pleasure of being together is quickly tempered by the pain of her family’s disappointment. And as her parents reject both her independence and her choices, Allison quickly becomes estranged from them just as she should be the happiest she’s ever been. Though Todd has no plans of folding on Allison again, the pressure from her family is difficult to overcome. He’d like to show everyone his cards once and for all, but playing for keeps is the riskiest move of all.
