About this listen

Alex is dead.

Dead, and apparently with a one-way ticket to a place that only the worst of the worst go.

All for a simple choice he made about a product his company owned.

Damned for all time.

Luckily for him, he's about to be given a chance.

Another choice to make.

He can return to the land of the living, though his soul would belong to another. Except the world he's being sent to isn't the same one he came from. It's not even a similar period in time, but from something long past in history.

The dark ages.

And part of the deal to live again, is to make pacts with others. Pacts that would bind others in secrecy. That they could never speak of what they'd done.

Deals for anything, and everything. From things as simple as a meal to their very lives. How much would you give of yourself to live on in the world is an easy question.

The better question is, how much would you take from others?

If Alex wants to keep living, to keep his soul from being sent to the darkest corner of hell, he'll have to ask himself that question. '

Daily.

Amazing what a good narrator can do. Book is great and Andrea Parsneau really brings it to life.

Great book

Love the story, can’t get enough of it. Hard to put down once you start. Main character is smart and does what he needs to and doesn’t squirm when it comes to the hard decisions. I can’t wait for more! Also the narrator was fantastic and her voice was so soothing to listen to!

Fantastic rendition!

Was very good but skips over a lot of first time sex with characters. Slightly disappointing.

Good but could be better

A captivating storyline in my opinion. The MC isn't a hero, he not are they a villain persay. They do what they must and have relatively human emotions. Doubts, worries, mistakes, and the world itself is captivating as well, with its own drama and issues. Very fun listen, and the spicy scenes, and relationships themselves, seemed very real. Not just women falling all over themselves for the MC like is typical with this Genre. I'll be completing this series for sure.

The only element that I believe would add anything to the story, is if it maybe had different perspectives on different sides of the world or in the story itself. however, it's not necessary, and what's here is a genuinely great story.

Just a great listen. Preformed exceptionally well.

Another great series semi set in the same "multiverse" as a majority of Arand and Darren's other series. This is prime time dark haremlit if youre into that. Darren's style comes out again here just as well as it did in the Wild Wastes series.

MC is a combination of the determined ruthless mind of Felix from Arand's amazing Super sales on Super Heroes combined with the incredibly strong and primal Vince in Darren's Wild Wastes. He cares for those he loves and fuck everyone else. I, personally, prefer the darker and deviant characters that Darren seems to love when compared to the characters that Arand writes. Both are good, though.

Supporting characters are well done, if a bit simple. A lot of Alex's time in the beginning of the book is a lesson in interrogation. Getting into the mind of another and figuring out what makes them tick. This has the nice side effect of really diving into side characters motivations and character development. Doing things and making simple deals for seemingly simple things to maneuver them into being who he wants them to be. To get the ball rolling fast MC starts out with a lot of political power in his local area thus giving him leverage to make said deals.

Andrea Parsneau is AMAZING as always. Her vocal range and acting is top tier. Sex scenes are hard to get right for a narrator and can honestly make or break a series in audio form, but she can pull them off VERY well. There is a reason why both Arand and Darren use her near exclusively for the vast majority of their books.

IF you enjoy this series and want more like it, give Darren's other series "Wild Wastes" and "Remnant" a try.

Wonderfully Primal

If you've ever played D&D and wonder "How can someone be lawful and Evil at the same time ?" you'll find the answer here. The MC joins the short ranks of irredeemably evil yet likeable characters, this is no hero, no antihero, he's not even a villain , he's a greedy manipulative jerk and he's a joy to read.

This is the second time I purchase the book because the marvelous Andrea Parsneau is narrating this version. 100% worth it!

A marvelously Machiavellian MC

So.... I have read the comments and am disappointed by all the weak readers out there. I have almost 400 titles on this so far and I'd have to say that the majority propagate weak masculine characters so that the reader feels better about themselves in some way. I appreciate that the protagonist of this story is not weak. He takes what is his. He was plopped down into a situation where he had power and he utilizes it to get what he wants. I hope I would do the same in his situation. I find myself gravitating back to this series weekly after sampling the rest of the garbage out there to as we say cleanse the pallet. Thank you for allowing me to write a positive review for once.

Scratched my itch

The main character is almost totally reprehensible, but that's the point I guess. I keep waiting for him to grow a conscience but he doesn't.

Not terrible. Not great.
