About this listen

Have you ever woken up, rolled over, and thought to yourself, “I’m pretty sure I’m working for a Super Villain.”

If you haven’t, then maybe you’re not the type of person to work for a global corporation.

Edmund, however, is just such an individual.

He works for Legion: a corporation of unimaginable reach that he barely understands, a corporation that seems determined to put itself smack dab in the middle of a brewing civil war between Super Heroes and Super Villains.

That doesn’t even take into account the fact that the governments of the world don’t seem to be taking too keenly to Legion, either.

All of that is mostly irrelevant to Edmund, though. He works for the company and does all he can to make sure they succeed.

From cleaning up after a bad operation and disposing of bodies to providing hush money, getting rid of agents from opposing intelligence communities, or just helping an informant escape from a Super Villain, Edmund has done it all in this line of work.

That doesn’t fill up the entirety of his life, however.

The rest of it is trying to get a date with the woman he likes and looking out for his little sister while hiding the fact he himself has a superpower.

A superpower that lets him save and load the world whenever he likes as if it were a video game and subject to his personal whims.

At least, that’s what he thought in the beginning.

very interesting

This reminds me very much of Quicksave from the book series The Perfect Run, which is also a good book so this is a compliment. It's interesting to think about the possibilities and how far back this goes and intertwines into the story. good if you're caught up with the current series interested to see how it ties into the other aligning book series

Challenging read, but fun

It was a little difficult to keep track of where or rather when things were, as I usually only listen to it on my drive to and from work. A fun spinoff.

dull mediocrity

a new low for the author. I had to give up on listening 4 ours into the book, as I could nor come up with a single reason to continue spending my time on this book instead of something else.

Had Potential to be better

There was potential for this to be better than it was, but it felt like the author lost interest, and wanted to wrap this up.

End game for Runner

The first half is friend zone MC second half he saves all the universe in Runner / Ryker world. No harem in first book maybe the next one. A better story then OP MC if you no you no.

This is not another typical book in the series

This is not a harem book and sex scenes are minimal.

There be spoilers beyond this line.

This I hope is the climax and primary conclusion to the series but not Edmunds story.

Edmunds revert state ability seems a reasonable way to resolve the series.
I hope there won't be back tracking.
This is not harem lit and the way characters are throwing themselves at Ed needs some explanation.
Ed comes off as too mature without showing enough how he got there.
I don't think Ed's suspicion towards Runner makes sense considering Zeus's behavior even with Ed's limited knowledge.
Maybe he's projecting maybe there's a plot device but I feel like that will be a big story element in the next book to keep the stakes high.

I think the limits on the power make sense and are about the best you can do and make the plot work.

There is a lot of words spoken as direct from the author to the audience.

While I say I don't want back tracking, super sales was my introductory series and the end of Andrea is hard. It cements stakes although it comes out of nowhere and I don't see it as clearly connected.

Zeus's lines left me with the idea that Zeus failing has consequences.
Dots behavior doesn't really make sense either.

I think it's a solid book though it isn't cookie cutter in line with the rest of the series that I love.
Ed's story is more like the first in a series than the last. I like that he is taking time and trying to make it work with Romina. It seems like resetting is slowing down his life and story.

It's a good story

I don't like how a few of the characters are voiced but that happens when you get three to five different narrators.

Mid and released out of order

I will admit I have a bit of a grudge with this book. Why? It spoils Super Sale on Super Heroes 5 quite a bit. This should have been released after that book as half the book I was playing mental catch up as to what was going on with characters I actually cared about. Then there is the pesky plot hole of, doesn't this story take place in the same world as Retribution, incubus inc, and Swing Shift? Mean we already saw Felix reunite with those missing in Swing Shift 3 where it is implied a lot happened.

But onto the book itself. The Mc is far too passive and I just can't bring myself to like the guy. There just was never that much tension and given half his time is opining about his pining for a girl that friendzoned him. Look I get that relationships like theirs happen in real life, but for me to care the girl needs to appear more often than a handful of times and be more than a cooky cutter peppy happy girl. This is especially true when every other female side character is more interesting and likeable and to be blunt seem to be better fits. In other words those other side girls actually help make Edmund's life better where as the girl he wants does not. Add to this the disconnect due to the release being out of order and I'm left disconnected and worse disinterested. Which is really really bad given how much this book relies on the rest of the franchise to support it. If you haven't read dungeon Deposed you won't care about Uncle, if you haven't read al 5 of super sales you won't know or care what is happening with Felix, or things that are references constantly in this book. Combine this with lack of character development thus very much felt like a have to book than a want to book from the author. Mean yeah Shrit and Zeus resolution but again if you haven't read other world nightmare you won't care.

Seriously I dropped this book with a little under 4 hours left, read the last few minutes and don't know if I will get back to it. Which leaves me in a bit of a spot. If you want to know what is happening in the runnerverse this is a must read, if you just want a good book this ain't it. God I hope this isn't how the otherwise excellent franchise ends.
