About this listen

The first in a new series from award-winning author Rebekah Weatherspoon....

A weeklong getaway...

City girl Claudia Cade's carefree life is plunged into chaos when a camping trip with her brother in the national forests of Northern California turns into a deadly dash for her survival.

A solitary world turned upside down...

Nature photographer Shepard Olsen has resigned himself to a quiet existence, with only his dog by his side, until a woman in need of his protection shows up on his doorstep and throws his universe into disarray.

Two lives linked by tragedy...

Claudia is desperate to heal from her traumatic loss but can’t stop thinking about her run-in with evil...or the grizzled mountain man whose quick thinking and good aim saved her life. When she shows up on Shep's doorstep again, she finds she isn't the only one who can't move on.

...saved by bliss.

The two begin an intense, passionate relationship of dominance and submission, pleasure and pain, but with dark memories haunting them and decisions about the future rapidly approaching, Claudia can’t help but wonder...how long can they be each other's haven?

Warning: This book contains a sexual relationship between a fashionista and a cranky mountain man who are dealing with physical and emotional trauma. And a very big, cuddly dog.

Not Her Best Book but they get much better

This book read like a freshman attempt. It was clumsy and only mildly entertaining. The male voice attempting to narrate the woman’s voice was not great. I’ve read other great books by this author and look forward to others but this wasn’t one of them.

trauma bonding, but make it sexy

I wasn't going to read this because trauma bonding is not usually my thing, but Weatherspoon takes so much time doing character development and world building that it felt like two messed up people falling in love, not like 'finding each other instead of therapy'. The voices were well done, great acting.

Sexyyyyy Romance!

This book was such a lusty and emotional rollercoaster! I really fell in love with Shep (he’s such a great guy!) and my heart went out to Claudia the entire book. What a great pair for this sensual read! I loved every minute of this story. This is my second book by this author and both times she strikes a great balance between the character’s narrative and steamy sex scenes to keep you reading.

The narration left much to be desired though. Shep and Claudia’s voices were good when they were narrating their own parts. However, when either character impersonated the other the voice that was used was disorienting and not very pleasing to the ear.

Hot & amazing

I love this book so much. I’ve read it so many times and was thrilled to see it come to audio.

I love Shep.  I love Claudia.  I love Shep & Claudia together.  I might hate Rebekah Weatherspoon for putting me through everything that Claudia and Shep go through to get to their HEA - but it was glorious and I can’t find one critical thing to say about it.  So, I'm pretty sure I love Rebekah Weatherspoon too.

This is a super gritty and angsty romance where, if it weren't for a horrific tragedy, these two people should never have met. The road they travel - physically, emotionally, and psychologically is so painful and authentic. You can't help to want to hug them one moment and smack their heads together the next. Are the sex scenes kinky & smoking? You betcha!

The ending was perfect and at the same time I feel like I'd read an entire series about Claudia and Shep. I'll settle for more about Claudia's BFF, Liz in Sanctuary.

Narration:
This is the first time I’ve listened to Rolando Brown or Phoenix McKay and I loved both of their performances. McKay doesn’t have a lot of chapters, but she did a great job as Claudia. There’s some really emotional scenes for her and she really brings depth to those parts. Brown as Shep is so good. His deep, gravely, smooth delivery is the perfect fit for the mountain man. I will definitely be listening to this again.

It was ok

A decent book. Could have used more description all around. I would have loved if the author added more details about the MC’s ptsd. Overall I’m not disappointed.

The female narrator irked my nerves.

Just could not care about characters

I could not believe after 8 chapters I still could not care about the characters. They lacked depth. You were left to guess about what they were feeling and thinking as there was little given as to their innermost thoughts. Very little descriptions as to get a mental picture of them for while I was listening. I found that extremely frustrating. The story was broken, did not flow well at all. It is not very often I return a book due to disappointment. Basically, I could care less about the nationality of the persons, just describe them and have the other half think about them and what they think about thier attributes. There was ZERO here.

Stilted performance, tedious story

First off, the performance of the male narrator left much to be desired. It was difficult to understand where one sentence ended and the next began. It seems he was just chosen due to his deep tone of voice, assuming that this would be enough of an attraction to female readers.
The storyline did not appeal to me at all, I could not connect with the FMC. I saw a similar review on here for this writer's books, so perhaps it's not just me.... I purchased all three books in the trilogy because it was the last day before my credits expired - THANKFULLY Audible allowed me to return the second two books (I started the second and it was so annoying that I had to switch it off).
Off to search for something different.
