About this listen

What happens when you teach chaos theory and life starts to mirror your lessons? The tiniest events transform the most driven woman in this beautifully written lesbian psychological thriller.

Fierce and frosty high achiever Professor Sonja J. Storey is on the verge of seizing power in her department. She has exacting plans to remake her backwoods North Carolina university, just as she has painstakingly remade herself.

Sonja's perfectly ordered life takes a dramatic turn when she meets laid-back, magnetic junior professor Crystal Byrd.

But then come threatening notes, sinister emails, and shadowy nocturnal figures, and suddenly, Sonja's controlled world starts to tremble like a butterfly in a storm.

Is someone out to get her? Is it a specter from Sonja's past? It's hard not to be suspicious of everyone, even intoxicating Crystal with her temptingly warm presence.

Seeing danger everywhere, Sonja must hunt down the source of the chaos before she loses her brilliant mind, and her chance at the one thing she's never known - love.

Contains mature themes.

I can hardly believe this was the author’s first book! It’s an amazing, dark and captivating story and Abby brought it to life amazingly! Some of the voices are actually chilling! A must read!

What an amazing trip!

this was a difficult book to hear, with themes of abuse, mental illness, and anger. still, beautifully written.

This audiobook kept me riveted - had to keep coming back for more. The dysfunction and pain was challenging while
also compelling.

Brilliant writing narrated by the legendary Abby Craden, delivering one of the best performances I've heard from her extensive and impressive body of work. Overall, thought provoking, intense and simply beautiful. Well done!

I couldn't stop listening. Very well written and Abby's narrative is what brings the characters to life.

Fantastic

This was the most torturing book I have ever listened to. I stayed to the end because of Abby Craden and Crystal, the character. I was completely disturbed after listening to this. just awful. too MF slow and torturing again. I am going to stop here.

Torture!!!

I just now finished listening to the audiobook and my 3 stars are based solely on my enjoyment. Dr. Sonja J. Storey was such an unpleasant character; the cruelest ice queen I’ve ever listened to. It was painful to listen to how she spoke to and treated other people. Things smoothed out late in the book, but I was too shell-shocked by then.
Abby Craden was magnificent in her performance. She deserves 10 stars.
In spite of my feelings at this moment I will say that this was a very well-written psychological thriller. There were a lot of characters and an abundance of drama. I will re-listen to this later and, perhaps change my opinion.

Disappointing

I believe there is a great book in this story. I am not sure it was unpacked in a believable way. The ending felt rushed as to answer some of the many questions this book left us with. As usual AC was perfection which can make it difficult to tell if I really liked the story or the sound of AC’s voice!

Great narration

What an intrgueing story. The ends and outs of this story can make your head turn, but it so well written that you all of the end and outs of are easy to follow and you can understand the the mere estimate of the nuance that brings the story together.

what you know and what you don't.

WOW. This is a seriously gripping psychological drama. Not since Alone by EJ Noyes have I felt such inner turmoil written so eloquently. So hauntingly. For those who are drawn to ice queens, Professor Sonja Storey is one for the ages. If you're looking for sweetness and a lot of sex you won't find that here. This isn't a romance. It includes a love story, but it serves as more of a catalyst to move Storey forward in healing from her tortured past.

Dr. Storey is a fascinating, complex character - and nearly impossible to like. She's HARD. She's been beaten down time and time again, but is determined to not just survive - but excel - in spite of it. Interestingly, I didn't feel like Wren was concerned with readers liking her, just understanding her.

I was moved by the book when I first read it, but found the audiobook version even more haunting due to the incredible performance of Abby Craden. So powerful. I felt Dr. Sonja Storey's turmoil, her pain, her demons more acutely. You'll probably need to listen to something light after this. (I did.) But damn - it's absolutely worth it.

Rarely am I so blown away by a book - certainly by a debut novel. I predict this will catapult Wrenn into the stratosphere in sapphic literature. Jump on the bandwagon now, folks. I foresee more incredible work from this exciting new author!

An incredible debut!
