About this listen

The Azathe Tea Room is a strange place. There are no servers, no menus—do mind our hostess, though, she can get a bit underfoot! Help yourself to a book while you wait, and be sure to shuffle your tarot deck well before placing your order.

Harper Hollingsworth wasn't looking for a friend. She wanted peace and quiet. Someplace to lose herself in a book and not think about being a misfit; not think about her coven or her disconnect from the craft as her mother taught it. She didn't want to think about her lack of magical ambition, as she was regularly told by her mother's poison-tongued familiar, and more than that—she didn't want to feel. Anything.

Companionship wasn't her aim the day she stepped into the odd little tea room. She wanted to settle into the shadows and get lost there, and if she had to talk to anyone, it would be to herself.

The shadowy proprietor of the Azathe Tea Room isn't content to watch Harper sink into depression within the walls of their establishment. Once they intervene, Harper is drawn into their world of oddity and emotions, where the darkest shadows can reside in the light, and even the most mildly macabre witch can find her place.

Contains mature themes.

Felt unfinished...

I love this series but this book feels half done... considering how much I liked the others it was quite a let down.

This is my favorite

I've listened to all of these books twice but love this one the most! I can't figure out why but the idea of a shadow is new (perhaps just to me) and very enjoyable

Was it finished?

I was interested to see where this went but it felt unfinished. We don’t find out answers to most of the questions like why that familiar is so sneaky or why the other one hates the mom’s familiar does she find her community! What happens to the coven? Does the kelpie ever attack? It just stops just before things would likely start to pick up. Was this a part one? I’m a little confused.

Quick listen… glad to be moving on from this series.

This was a quick read/listen. I related to it/Harper often due to the recent loss of my father, and Harper’s predisposed introverted/withdrawn traits. However, I’m not sure how this series started out with the smuttiest of smut… to this. Each book progressively lessened in the smut department and each plot/characters got…weirder and weirder. Honestly glad this series is over so I can move on.

Ended too soon

I wanted this book to be part one of a series, it ended too quickly and abruptly and left me with a lot of questions.

Abrupt ending, but still a good story

I hadn't read this book before listening to it, so I
was unprepared for the amount of grief in the
story. I really enjoyed the growing friendship
between Harper and Azathé, and their physical
relationship felt natural enough. The narration was very well done. I have enjoyed everything from the Cambric Creek series.

Another Great Story from Cambric Creek

I want to visit this tea shop! Unique story, unique setting, and unique spice.
Really love how this series' characters experience and battle real life problems (grief, depression, isolation) in a believable way.
That said, I hope there will be a part 2 or Harper and Azethe are revisited in another book because what the heck?! Can't be the end!

Dark Horse

I love this book. The performance are spot on. The author really understands grief in a manner where you're rooting for Harper.

The story seems to go slow, but I appreciated the thoughtfulness of how the character develops from depression to grieving.

The spice is a little past the halfway mark, but again the thoughtfulness of the author addressing such a sensitive and serious topic that it made sense.

Only thing I didn't like was the book left a few relationships unanswered. For example, Harper's mother's familiar and Harper's new employer; the "new coven"; Harper's relationships with her mother...

I would expect more for this storyline to be truly finish.

it seemed all over the place

I love this series however this one seemed lacking its like a odd promo to a movie. their is a just odd happenings thrown together it seems. like her family disappeared for the most part as did the first familiar then a second familiar showed up in and out of the story. then her shadow lover isn't there but there she loves him but it's never discussed. then it just ends.... do they ride the ferris wheel? does she become an awesome whitch..... the world may never know.
