About this listen

It's always been Mimi Rousseau's dream to open her own bistro, but it seems beyond her grasp since she's been chased back home to Nouvelle Vie in Napa Valley by her late husband's tremendous debt. Until her best friend Jorianne James introduces her to entrepreneur Bryan Baker who invests in promising prospects. Now, working the bistro and inn until she's able to pay it off and call it her own, Mimi is throwing the inn's first wedding ever.

The wedding will be the talk of the town, as famous talk show host Angelica Barrington, daughter of Bryan's half-brother, Edison, has chosen the inn as her perfect venue. Anxious, Mimi is sure things are going to turn south, especially when Edison gets drunk and rowdy at the out-of-towners' dinner, but by the evening, things begin to look up again. That is until 6:00 a.m. rolls around, and Bryan is found dead at the bistro with an éclair stuffed in his mouth. And the fingers point at Mimi, whose entire loan is forgiven in Bryan's will.

Now it's up to Mimi to clear her name and get to the bottom of things before the killer turns up the heat again in A Deadly Éclair, the scrumptious series debut by Agatha Award-winning author Daryl Wood Gerber.

Easy reading, nice character development, kept me guessing.

Easy reading, and the story kept me interested, and guessing at who the killer was.
Nice character development, and descriptions of food, and the wine country.

Average

General plot is good. Narration is monotone and not a good flow at junctions, such as the end of a chapter. ‘Male’ voice was not good, figure out how to improve upon that.

Deadly eclairs

This was a wonderful story, very well performed. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book while I was in my car. The food descriptions made me hungry.

Soooo slllooowww

This book drug. There seemed to be a lot of scenes where nothing happened and nothing was revealed. I didn’t get a feeling of attachment to any of the characters.

Great cozy!

I must disagree with the last reviewer, I don’t see racism here at all. Just because the gardeners Hispanic doesn’t mean that he was stereotyped. She should’ve read the rest of the book. I really hope there’s another book in this series!

Fun Cozy Mystery

A great cozy mystery and an escape from heavier listens for me. The reviews complaining of racist and politics are pure silliness to me. Can we not even say "french, hispanic, or African American" anymore? 😂 America is great BECAUSE of our diverse backgrounds. Food is great because of the diversity of where it comes from. The love between all of these nationalities is evident in this book. This story breaks down all the barriers of race, social standing, differences in our pocketbooks, all of it. The craziness of being offended by every little thing just gripes me. I did not figure out who murdered Bryan Baker. Mimi Rousseau's amateur sleuthing was really good . . . and scary at the same time. I loved her friend Jo and kept rooting for her to catch on to Tyson's attraction to her. This was a clean cozy, which I greatly appreciated. Great first in the series!

Ending is unsatisfying.

The obvious leftist leaning editorial at the conclusion is an Unnecessary and solidified my opinion that I’ll never seek out this authors work again. Plus, the authors’ writing skill needs time to mature.

Some of us are very strongly against the leftist ruining our precious republic!

Meh

Not sure if it was the narrator, storyline or a combination of both. Predictable and silly (goldfish assisting in crime board input). Will not be listening to more.
