Publisher's summary

Bloomsbury presents A Heart So Fierce and Broken by Brigid Kemmerer, read by Melissa Bayern, Matt Reeves, Kate Handford and Davis Brooks.

In the sequel to New York Times bestselling A Curse So Dark and Lonely, Brigid Kemmerer returns to the world of Emberfall in a lush fantasy where friends become foes and love blooms in the darkest of places.

Find the heir, win the crown.
The curse is finally broken, but Prince Rhen of Emberfall faces darker troubles still. Rumors circulate that he is not the true heir and that forbidden magic has been unleashed in Emberfall. Although Rhen has Harper by his side, his guardsman Grey is missing, leaving more questions than answers.

Win the crown, save the kingdom.
Grey may be the heir, but he doesn't want anyone to know his secret. On the run since he destroyed Lilith, he has no desire to challenge Rhen—until Karis Luran once again threatens to take Emberfall by force. Her own daughter Lia Mara sees the flaws in her mother's violent plan, but can she convince Grey to stand against Rhen, even for the good of Emberfall?

The heart-pounding, compulsively listenable saga continues as loyalties are tested and new love blooms in a kingdom on the brink of war.

Grey

I really enjoyed seeing things in a new light in Grey's eyes. The struggles he went through and the new found magic. He finds love which is well deserved.

Meh...

I was so excited for this book to come out but I gatta say, I was let down. This book is no where near the book that A Curse so Dark and Lonely is. I will stick with this series to the end because I am invested already. Book 3 better be ah-mazing!

wow!

What in the actual hell did I just read?! First of all this book went in a completely different direction then I was expecting it too and it left me very frustrated... and the ending redeemed it and gave me what I wanted...and left with more questions.. such a plot twist!

the performance I thought was just as good as the first... however there were times that the person who voiced li maras chapters irked me

Better than the first book

This was good enough to finished but not compelling enough to read the third. Trying a new series first. Overall, the story was decent and the characters were likable. Good for someone just getting into fantasy. No spice.

amazing sequel!

absolutely LOVED the first book. Couldn't put it down. For some reason it took me a little longer to get into this one but once it got me hooked, I couldn't stop. I'll be impatiently waiting for the 3rd book!

Narrator ruined it

I have already read the book but I wanted to listen to the series on audible. The first one was great! However the female narration for the two sisters in this one is like nails on a chalkboard. So whiny. I am trying so hard to finish it but I don’t know if I will be able to. It ruins a good story.

better characters than the first book

I liked the first story, but the new love interests are more interesting in book two. I never loved the main character in book one so painting him in a more sinister light made sense to me. I am excited to see how it all comes together in book three!

Good story Whiny voice

I loved this book, but the narrators voice can be very grating at times as the girl characters sound very whiny- it is hard to believe that they are strong as the book is portraying them to be when they’re constantly whining and complaining and sounding miserable. But I was able to get through the book nonetheless, and recommend it! Ultimately, I wish the narrator sounded less dramatic and more calm.

Fierce and Broken Indeed

This was very well written but I did not like the narrator for Lea Mara. Too melodramatic and juvenile for me, although I acknowledge this is a YA story.
The story itself is wonderful. An epic tale with excellent characters and dialogue! Worth the listen.
