A great performance and great story

The third book in the series, picks up a short while after book 2. Lacy and her daughter, August, are headed to Austria to visit Lacy’s grandfather. There is quite a bit of mystery surrounding the trip when the two arrive to find the grandfather dead. Lacy is the rightful heir to the estate, a fact that has more than a few people seeing red. Lacy and August are convinced the grandfather was murdered and they aim to get to the bottom of it. Of course, there is the handsome, if somewhat older inspector to aid August along the way, until he too falls under August’s suspicion. And what better way to get someone out of the way than to frame them, and that’s exactly what the true killer sets out to do. There is intrigue, romance, danger, and tons of action in this romantic suspense. The story is so captivating I couldn’t stop listening. I highly recommend this audio book. The narrator does a great job with her voices, and delivers a lively performance. I highly recommend this book to lovers of romantic suspense.

Greed and power

August seemed like a smart @ss know it all. She played amateur slouth and misinterpreted some "evidence". The villains are not surprising. but I enjoyed the journey. August infuriated me with her hard headedness and jumping to conclusions. Wolfe had a lot of patience with her!!!! I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did female voices well, but not the male counterparts.

Great ending to the series!

August and her mom Lacy are heading to Austria to meet Lacy's grandfather to learn about her dad and her heritage. But he mysteriously dies the day they arrive and the rest is a wonderful whirlwind of adventure, mystery and love. Brenda Whiteside does a beautiful job with this series and Holly Holt brought it to live in a great way! This is crammed full of action and suspense. I love that Lacy is in this story too! Lots of danger and guessing who is doing what and why. Its an intense ride and I don't expect anything less from this amazing author!

Was a good listen

I thought the author did a good job pulling the reader in, giving a believable story, with great characters. Was a good plot and did make me smile a few times. I enjoyed the shocking deaths and near deaths, The romance was very touching and nice. The author made me smiles a few times.

I thought the narration was okay, there is background noise when she pauses, there are times when it is to fast and other times when the rhythm moves good. Her character voices are nice, you know who is talking. She reads a little to fast and should pause a little more. It was an enjoyable listen but felt off a little. Her male and female voices are very nice, I think sh has improve from the last time I listen to this narrator. She does give true emotions that you can feel.

All in all it was an enjoyable listen but just needs some work. I thought the author did a good job pulling the reader in, giving a believable story, with great characters. Was a good plot and did make me smile a few times. I really liked the mystery and danger.

Another good addition to the series

Audible.

I've already listened to and enjoyed the first two books in this series. I'll admit I'm a fan of May/December trope, so I was looking forward to this one. August joins her mother, Lacey (from book 1, Art of Love & Murder) in Austria to meet her great-grandfather and learn more about their family's history. They arrive to find that he's been murdered and they've been thrust into the center of a mystery. Investigating the case is the older Tobias Wolf. While initially they clash, eventually Wolf & August work together to solve all of the strange occurrences at the castle.

At times, I found it difficult to connect with August. Partially, because her "backstory" was a little illogical ~ she's only 23, yet has a college degree, owns a successful gallery, and just recently divorced. While I know this is possible, it's seems like a lot of "life" for someone so young and the whole divorce thing could have been left out because it didn't seem to serve any purpose. Additionally, her attitude/actions during the story are often immature. While I think the point may have been independent or strong it felt more belligerent and unreasonably hostile.

I did enjoy Wolf and eventually warmed to his blossoming relationship with August. Since we're privy to the antagonists POVs, it's not a "true" mystery ~ but there is a lot of action/suspense to be enjoyed. While there is romance, it doesn't dominate the story. Listeners who don't want explicit sex scenes will especially appreciate Whiteside's approach.

Holly Holt's narration was pleasant. The Austrian German felt a little off. While she did catch many of the superficial pronunciation differences, she was missing that "back of the throat" origin and hard endings for words. Listeners who haven't spent time around native speakers might not notice and it wasn't awful or cartoonish, so I was fine.

Overall, it was still an enjoyable experience and I'll continue to listen to what Whiteside & Holt have to offer.

Murder mystery

Another great murder mystery by Brenda, this one will have you guessing on the motive and what would happen next. You will shake your head at August's antics at times, but the NEW is pretty good. Holly did a fantastic job with the narrative!

Mystery, political intrigue, and a little history

I woman and her daughter travel to Austria to meet a long lost grandfather only to discover he died just before their arrival. From there the mystery begins.
I found the book a little slow to connect with at first, but I did enjoy the history and from there I was able to connect and found it most enjoyable. It's a little obvious what's going on, but it works.
The narration was okay. I could often hear other things going on in the background or her taking a sip of something. The accents were really good and I enjoyed the listen.
