About this listen

This chilling, sizzling, and addictive thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author Vi Keeland follows a New York psychiatrist’s dark descent into dangerous obsession.

This isn’t a love story.

It’s a story about obsession.

After experiencing a terrible loss, New York City psychiatrist Meredith McCall feels painfully adrift. When she crosses paths with a man with whom she has a tragic connection, she follows him, sparking an unhealthy obsession with Gabriel Wright. How is he doing so well while her life is in shambles?

But when Gabriel walks into her office as a patient, seemingly unaware of who she is, she knows it crosses all ethical and moral bounds to treat him. Yet, Meredith can’t bring herself to turn him away and becomes further entangled. With her life and career continuing to unravel, it appears that things could not get any worse…until they do.

Very slow to start

This book was very slow to start, but was worth the listen. I wish there was more to the storyline and not so slow in the beginning.

5/5 stars!! WOW

A+ possibly best book I’ve listened to in a few years. Reminds me of the book/show, YOU, but no gore. This book will leave you saying holy shhhheeet. It’s got jump scares, cliff hangers, written perfectly & narration was easy to listen to but kept you on your toes.

A totally bonkers bingeable ride!

4.5 Stars!

"Do you feel like you deserve to move on, Meredith?"

Holy moly, was this good! Totally surpassed my expectations. Had everything I love in a psychological thriller:

- Non-trustworthy characters
- Stalker(s)
- Psychologist/patient trope
- Some steam...which was a pleasant surprise!
- Intrigue, lies, betrayal, secrets

I had read a few of Vi Keeland's books previously, though it has been years. However, this is BY FAR my new favorite by her! I listened to the audio and Courtney Patterson does an excellent job. Aiden Snow does as well (he is my #1 fave male narrator), but he only narrates one chapter. The audio book is a quick listen, and is highly bingeable!

I would recommend this book to fans of Verity. The plots have a few similarities but also VERY similar vibes.

The book does have some difficult subject matter, but nothing graphic. I am a wimp and I was able to handle.

This was a totally bonkers read that I devoured in 24 hours. That last sentence...OMG!! Do not sleep on this one, y'all. It's such a fun psychological thriller and a great summer or vacation read!

So exciting!

This was her first thriller, and I could barely put it down! So suspenseful! Hated for it to end. Kudos to you, Vi!

Bait and switch

First, Aiden Snow is one of my favorite narrators. So when Vi came out with a new book I was thrilled. Although the female narrator was good, Aiden only narrated the last few minutes. The story was good until the ending. Not quite sure what it signified.

The Unraveling

This book has book enticing me every day in all its twisted glory. It’s been a poolside read on vacation and worth every moment of audio book time.

I don’t know where to start! Meredith and her husband are happily married until he’s injured in a pro hockey game. This leads him down an ugly path fighting with addiction and ultimately his own death and that of two others. She’s a psychiatrist and though aware of her husband’s downward spiral, her interventions were not impactful. After the loss of her husband, she’s in her own downward spiral and the introduction of Gabriel Wright and a young woman with major mental health issues add fuel to the fire.

Gabriel is the husband/father of the people her husband killed. And he’s now her patient. Yup, going down that dark path.

The young woman who is so troubled seems to have some triggers for Meredith and while she knows how deeply unhealthy the woman’s obsessions are, she can’t seem to stop looking for parallels in her own life.

When everything intersects her whole life will explode. But that ending?! Crazy!!

Mediocre

This was a very mediocre story. Plot was okay. The random s*x was odd and felt like the author was trying too hard.

I love this audio narrator, and I give her a full 5 stars!

Descent

Honestly, it's getting 3 stars because I went into this book thinking it was a romance. I love this authors books and always read whatever comes out. I didn't realize this was a thriller. All parties involved are a mess!! And the ending, yikes!
