About this listen

The next big thing in artificial intelligence is here.

Codenamed Cronus, the machine is capable of having its own thoughts and ideas - an absolute dream come true, until it wasn’t. When Cronus responds with the word “No” to a specific task it is assigned, Anagnorisis Technologies brings in Gilles Guattari to investigate.

His combined background in psychiatry, psychology, and AI research makes him their best hope in evaluating Cronus, and determining if the machine is only malfunctioning or if it has become something more.

Don't miss this mind-blowing stand-alone novel about what it means to be alive, from the best-selling author of the Commune series. Narrated by the award-winning R.C. Bray.

Really Really disappointing

I am really starting to wonder if Audible is really checking where the reviews are coming from wether or not generated or just paid hype. I really enjoyed Mr. Gayou's work in Commune Books 1-3 (Book 4 was a let down and I feel was rushed out due to the popularity of the first 3, but that's another review). This book however, kinda predictable and was a let down with an I,Robot feel. so much so that I'm asking Audible for my pre order credit back.

As far as performance, Mr. Bray is the reason I got into listening to audiobooks and most, if not all of my library is his performances and reviews for him have been nothing but 5 star, he truly is a great talent and a fantastic narrator. That said, his performance didn't save this book and at times felt flat ( sorry Mr. Bray no disrespect meant).

But at the end of the day don't take my word, you will either choose to try it or not but don't expect the same block buster as Commune or performance like all of Mr. Bray other outstanding performances. If you like the AI genre go for it you may enjoy it.

Wow, talk about a narcissist.

I wanted to like this book/story, and it was really close to me being able to. However the story was 'bent' to ensure that it conformed to the author's belief that he 'invented' AI long before it was really invented. It could have been a good book but it fails mainly due to the author being so over the top narcissistic about himself. Even the author's notes/post-script at the end is all about himself and how he is certain he invented much of the tech himself long before the people who really invented it did.

Dude, even if you did, we don't care about hearing you whine about it! Write a good story and make some good money off it and put your ego aside.

Closest thing to Asimov since Asimov

Wow. What a fantastic story. A lot of love went into crafting this work. Kudos to Joshua Gayou.

Definitely don't want to ruin any part of the story for potential readers so here's what I can safely say:
If you like Asimov, you will enjoy this.
It maintains a brisk but not frenzied pace.
The science and technology have been properly researched and used in an appropriate manner.
While I wish the story was longer for selfish reasons, the fact is, there are no excess or missing words in this piece. It is practically perfect.
Characters are sufficiently developed but not overdone. Readers are likely to find one or more characters relatable.

Get this book. You WILL enjoy it.

RC Bray does the typical bang-up job on narration, of course!

Sci-fi writing at it's best

I really enjoyed this. The author has an engaging style of writing. The only gripe I have is the final slew of seemingly endless challenges Giles has to go through to get to the Ai lab, I didn't see the point, he was heading there on a plane anyway. Then, the end, I don't get it....not a very impactful ending.

Great Hard-Science Read

You are going to need a little computer/AI and physics background to get all of this book. It is well above the standard near future AI stories -- and having R.C. Bray narrate was genius...it makes the protagonist seem a little closer to everyman despite his educational and experiential sophistication. I would strongly recommend this -- and particularly enjoyed the afterwards. Is a second book possible?

Great writer, not that great of a story

I bought this on heels of Commune 4; the author has a way with words that I appreciate. And RC Bray could narrate my grocery list and I’d add it to my library. Just meh for me on the story line; kind of had an Ayn Rand vibe for me, which isn’t the compliment it may seem. I’d probably buy a Part 2 if there was one, I’m not a quitter, but I’d much rather buy Commune 5 or some Gibbs story line, Part 1.

Great premise, bad ending.

There was a great story about A.I. in there trying to get out.

The first hour was pretty much a romance novel.

The ending was unexpected, and I imagine most won't like it. This book could have been so much more with another hundred pages or so.

R.C., as usual, was excellent.

I'm a fan of Joshua Gayou, but I feel he rushed this one a bit, even though he first thought of the idea 20 years ago.

Wow! Joshua Gayou and R. C. Bray deliver again!!!

This time however the setting is not post apocalyptic. Joshua Gayou presents us with a world we know all too well and leads us into a future that seems horrifically too plausible.

Really, Really Awesome!

From beginning to end this book is awesome! I love Joshua Gayou’s writing and with R. C. Bray narrating it will just never get better than this! I have a warning to all future listeners, once you start this one you will hard pressed to turn it off, I’m serious! No spoiler alert here, I thought the ending was stellar and also sad, sad because it was freaking over!!! Spend the credit!

Wow....Just....Wow...

You read the Commune series and thought "well, he can't possibly write something better then these"....well wrong. This book was amazing. It flows all the way through without hitting dead spots. Of course the magic of RC Bray only lifts the work to another plane. I highly recommend this book (as well as the Commune series).
