About this listen

[Human After All was previously released under the titles, Xom-B, Uprising, and Freeman. The author’s preferred title is Human After All.]

Freeman is a genius with an uncommon mixture of memory, intelligence and creativity. He lives in a worldwide utopia, but it was not always so. There was a time known as the Grind—when Freeman’s people lived as slaves to another race referred to simply as “Master.” They were property. But a civil rights movement emerged. Change seemed near, but the Masters refused to bend. Instead, they declared war.

And lost.

Now, the freed world is threatened by a virus, spread through bites, sweeping through the population. Those infected are propelled to violence, driven to disperse the virus. Uniquely suited to respond to this new threat, Freeman searches for a cure, but instead finds the source—the Masters, intent on reclaiming the world. Freeman must fight for his life, for his friends and for the truth, which is far more complex and dangerous than he ever imagined.

Robinson’s lightning fast, cutting-edge novels have won over thriller, horror, science-fiction and action/adventure fans alike, and he has received high praise from peers like James Rollins, Jonathan Maberry, and Scott Sigler. Human After All is a wildly inventive zombie novel with a high-tech twist that will keep readers guessing until the very last sentence.

I totally geeked out!!!!!

What did you like best about this story?

Zombies and robots in one seamless story?!?!?! Add a little science and BOOM...A nerds dream!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I did laugh at a few parts. Was frustrated at others but mostly just breathless at what was coming next.

Any additional comments?

I liked this book. Wasn't so much a scary/ suspenseful book zombie book nor a totally techy robot book but it was definitely a different look at both genres.

More Than a Zombie Story

Any additional comments?

This is so much more than another zombie story. The character of Freeman was intriguing to me from the start. I found it so interesting to watch him learn and discover what kind of person he wanted to be. I loved the way this story was wrapped up and explained in the end. The audio version of this book was amazing. R.C. Bray is one of my favorite narrators.

Riveting!

So many nail-biting moments that I just couldn't turn it off, the narration style was a little awkward at first but as the story unfolded, it explained itself and was absolutely spot on!

A brilliant existential crisis dressed up as compelling zombie fiction.

Like the Walking Dead and various other examples, the zombie menace in this story serves merely as a backdrop for the human and otherwise drama which is at the heart of any good story. What does it mean to live? What is it that makes us truly human? Set in 2084 — and not parralelling a certain classic destopian novel in any way, this story bridges the gap between high OctaneAction and a philisophical what-if senario set during the aftermath of a slave uprising. While none of the elements are wholely original, and a certain plot point is glaringly obvious to the poinnt of potential author intent, the charm, wit and intreague Robinson weilds to bring it all together is entertaining, refreshing and fascinating. After reading many of his novels, He is quickly becoming one of my many favorite authors. This was a credit well spentgh Special shout out to the superb narration which goes from analytical and child-like intreague to his signature lively performance in the space of a single plot poinpgh I didn't even realize it was such a shift until it happened.

A happy ending in a zombie story?

Finally found a zombie book I can say I love. Freeman’s moral compass is so refreshing. Jeremy, thank you for not giving up on this book.
