About this listen

He's a dinosaur...she's got a bad attitude. The Captain wants them gone, so she gives them the Cold Cases files. The one's nobody gives a damn about....

USA Today and Amazon 2-million copy best-selling author Blake Banner is at his best in this mystifying crime series!

Detective John Stone of the NYPD has the best arrest record in the 43rd precinct. But he’s a dinosaur who belongs to another age. Detective Carmen Dehan has such a bad attitude that nobody at the precinct can stomach her. Captain Jennifer Cuevas wants them both out of the way and thinks they make a perfect pair. So she gives them the Cold Cases file–the cases nobody gives a damn about.

She has no idea just how hot a cold case can get.

Ten years back, Nelson Hernandez and his four cousins were playing poker in a dive at Hunts Point. Somebody came in, blew them away, and beheaded and castrated Nelson, leaving his head and his balls on the table. There was no shortage of suspects, the Jersey Mob, the Triads from Manhattan, or the 43rds own bent cop, Mick Harragan. But nobody was ever charged, and the night of the murder Mick Harragan went missing with Nelson’s wife, Maria.

Now Stone and Dehan plan to find him–whatever the consequences….

Took a little time, but was worth it!

I almost gave up because the narration style didn't initially pull me in. But, I loved other books by this author so gave it a chance. By the end, the narration style merged with the character's personality and it all came together for me. Moving on to the next in the series now!

Old meets new

First off great storyline and loved how the more seasoned detective turned the table on his ranking officer (not to say all police are like this 😊). The story narrator was the perfect fit he gave me that old detective shows of the 40's and 50's can't wait for next installment 😄

a pretty good hard boiled cop story

I think four and a half Stars is a good rating for this one I love the narration and I liked the protagonists pretty well. above-average story. and the duration was perfect for this type of tale from the hard-boiled cup tooth moving between, well among, dialect with ease.

Great story

I could not stop listening to this recording. I have listened to well over 100 audio books but this is the first one I went to it's completion in one sitting. Great story and an excellent narrator.

The type of hard @$$ detective I love

I got this book to listen to with my wife, she fell asleep, (not because she was bored, we listen to books in 30min bits when we go to bed. Yes, there are other things we could be doing, she's tired a lot) but I couldn't stop listening. The narration was perfect for this type of character. I could picture him in my head. Boy oh boy the captain is going to regret pairing these two.

This is a great length for a book, easy to follow. It goes straight into it, no lead in, not too much background. You pickup knowledge about them as the investigation kicks off. You meet the main characters in the first few minutes. good twists I didn't see coming. I liked the way it ended. A lot of people got what they had coming to them. I always love it, karma doesn't exist in real life but good books have it.

The only thing I don't really dig is the female partner. I didn't pick up a good reason for her bad attitude. not something I would ding the overall rating for, we all have characters we don't really like. I think the main detective could carry books/stories on his own.
