About this listen

Yorkshire, 1820. Lina, Lady Radbourne, thought being a countess would rescue her from poverty. Unfortunately, her young groom failed to plan for the future, and his drunken accident left her widowed and pregnant. Now Colonel Winstead Vaughan - Win - will inherit her late husband's fortune... unless she gives birth to a boy. Win is her natural enemy, so why can't she stop thinking about him? Win is stunned to learn he stands to inherit a vast fortune. He's even more surprised to find himself falling for the beautiful, spirited Lady Radbourne, who is the one woman who stands in the way of a life he'd only imagined. When someone tries to poison Lady Radbourne, suspicion falls on Win. There's a clever killer in their midst, and if Win doesn't solve the mystery fast, Lina may perish. He needs to win her trust, but how can he prove it's she he wants, and not the fortune?

A disappointing performance of a great book

I loved this book, but the audio version was a great disappointment. The narrator uses a Yorkshire accent for the female characters, which is fine, as they are Yorkshire natives. The heroine sounds like Anna Bates of Downton Abbey, so I suppose the accent is fairly authentic. Her male voices are less satisfactory. The hero often speaks in an urgent monotone, and it can be hard to distinguish his lines from the narration. Oddly enough, although the book describes the hero's younger brother as speaking in a monotone (I presume that he is mildly autistic, although that term, of course, is not used), the narrator does not portray him that way.

I would describe the narrator's voice as "harsh," and not pleasant to listen to. I highly recommend reading the book -- it was one of my top five of 2014 -- but I cannot recommend the audio version.

Very good book!

I really like the author I did not know her before but I heard 4 of her books available on audible and loved them. I liked this one a lot. The story might be simple but captivating. The narrator was good as well

Great story, good narration, keeps you guessing!

Where does An Heir of Uncertainty rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Its a very good story and ranks very high since after I finished I was satisfied with the outcomes and the relationships.

Any additional comments?

Frederick really made this story sparkle, one always was wondering what he would come out with next. I just loved him.
