Publisher's summary

An Orc on the Wild Side is the latest comic masterpiece from one of the funniest writers in fantasy.

Winter is coming, so why not get away from it all?

Being the Dark Lord and Prince of Evil is not as much fun as it sounds, particularly if you are a basically decent person. King Mordak is just such a person. Technically he's more goblin than person, but the point is that he is really keen to be a lot less despicable than his predecessors.

Not that the other goblins appreciate Mordak's attempts to redefine the role. Why should they when his new healthcare program seems designed to actually extend life expectancy, and his efforts to end a perfectly reasonable war with the dwarves appear to have become an obsession? With confidence in his leadership crumbling, what Mordak desperately needs is a distraction. Perhaps some of these humans moving to the Realm in search of great homes at an affordable price will be able to help?

Mr. Bullfrog for the win

People from our world invade Middle-Earth for cheap real estate. Lot's of little clever things that Tolkien fans will appreciate. Would of rated it higher but I found a few of the voices took away from the enjoyment.

Loved it!

After one listen, I have become a fan of both Tom Holt and Ray Sawyer.
The author is VERY funny, the narration excellent, and I cannot recommend highly enough.

Fun

I loved this light hearted romp through another realm
I especially liked some of hidden bits of humor, such as she called the large pan Peter.

LORD of the RINGS, after the movie...

The Audio version is a must,.. every voice, every inflection of all the Lord of the Rings charectors is captured. But now there magic world meets Humans from our present earth, moving there for cheap real estate,,, someone buys the Black Castle to retire to and the laughs keep coming.

Brilliant! Another very witty novel.

Tom Holt's humor is English and thus very dry. He gently mocks and upends Tolkien and other fantasy writers with current cultural themes - in this case second home owners and lawyers - and a deep appreciation of Tolkienian characters. Some readers may not like his brand of intelligent, wry, and absurd writing but that is their loss. Personally I detest 'humorous' books that try too hard to be funny. This is not one of them.

Highly recommended for the intelligent reader/listener.

Like listening to a shopping list.

Apart from the last hour or so, Which was OK, the book was scattered, Mind numbingly Tedious And Not fun at all. Felt like a formula book by a very tired Writer.
The narrator was fine.

Lord of the rings little brother

I think it’s hilarious that it was outlined from lord of the rings! I’m laughing at every word I hear!

Was supposed to be funny, but just wasn't.

Was trying really hard to be funny, but this wasn't. Also every character had the same exact mannerisms.

Disappointed Holt fan

If I'd realized this was part of the YouSpace series, I wouldn't have bothered, but it wasn't labeled as such. I love Tom Holt but the YouSpace books have not been as good as I've come to expect from him. If you've enjoyed the previous ones in the YouSpace universe, you'll probably like this one. Holt has many series that are much better, although Audible doesn't seem to carry much by him anymore. That's why I was so excited to finally see a new one on here. It wasn't awful, but just okay. Sawyer's narration was excellent, as usual.
