About this listen

Wil Wheaton returns to narrate volume two in the Battle for Forever series.

Alexander X and his friends have had stadiums collapse on them and ancient teachers follow them; they have driven cars through buildings and had entire streets blown up around them. They've been chased, beaten, drugged, and nearly sliced in two by falling sheets of glass. And that...was just on Saturday.

Now, they must do whatever it takes to escape Elam Khai and flee the country. As they search for answers and Alexander's father, they will meet new allies, be confronted by new foes, and uncover more details of the plot that would protect the future for the very few by destroying it for everyone else.

Humor, action, and history combine as Ancient Among Us propels us to the moment where everything changes.

Nothing about this will be simple or easy.

Great follow up

At first I was a little nervous that this was just going to be a lot of needless action. Then the action led to more secrets to being revealed and snippet of alternate history and all the things that make this series so wonderful. Will Wheaton is a perfect narrator. I love the story and can’t wait to the next in the series!

No book 3 on the horizon?

I enjoyed the first (only) two books in this series. The story is interesting, the writing good, and Will Wheaton excellent again. It came as a disappointment to see the first two volumes were written in 2013, and Google shows absolutely nothing about a book 3, especially given the cliffhanger ending of book 2.

Thin story line

I liked the story but I got the feeling the author was writing to a word count regather than content. To often the storyline got bogged down in needless description and verbiage. I was disappointed.

Interesting

This is a decent continuation to the first book. It's not that quite as compelling but every bit as believable and scarily close to what could happen to our too-dependent-on-electronics world. Of course Wil Wheaton does a great job at narration. I look forward to the next in the series.

BFF. Just keeps getting better.

The first book was great. This one is over-the-top non-stop action. I can't wait for the next one

if only he'd seen the sawdust...

Very good follow up story, with interesting characters and locations. this one picks up immediately following the previous story, and expects that the reader has read the earlier story. If you haven't, don't start this one... if you have, you'll enjoy this one too.

Book 2 was just as exciting as the 1st!

Very entertaining, held my attention and was easy to follow, Wil Wheaton is the perfect narrator for this!

An enjoyable twist on sci fi

I liked both books in this series. Wil Wheaton is a great narrator. The major downside of this series is that each book is waaaay too short. Both in terms of time and plot, it feels a little light. Like a novella. But I'll buy the next ones when they come out. Looking forward to substantive plot developments - lol. These books were heavy on action - crazy amounts packed into each chapter. But the overall arc of the story hasn't advanced much over the two books! Get somewhere already, Alexander!

Is there an ending in site? Spoilers sort of.

I enjoyed the first book and got the second hoping for a conclusion. I was expecting a long and meandering conclusion but still a conclusion. Where is his Dad? Nope, still don’t know. What’s the big deal about Alex really? No clue. Conclusion? Nope, not in book 2, maybe book 3? I really like the storyline and enjoyed the characters. But it builds up and builds up to some great massive thing about to happen/who he is etc and then nothing really does. I get it Book 1 hooks you, Book 2 tries to keep you interested; a teaser, but Book 2 is mainly a bridge to Book 3. I feel like the author threw one very sad but kind of predictable storyline in at the very ending just to have something of substance in there. (Crewman #6 Guy Fleegman-esque)Will Wheaton’s reading was very enjoyable. I’ll probably get Book 3 but we’ll see. It is YA but if the editor can just cut down in Book 3, on some of the long descriptions of fight scenes and tangential back stories to every famous notable person of history that Alex knew, I think it is a fun read/listen.

Great Entertaining Listen!

Written like a distant cousin to the Jason Bourne series but for a younger audience. I like the use of historical flashbacks to give the back story of the main character. I found myself googling those events to learn more. Thanks Edward! Will Wheaton once again performs superbly.
