About this listen

The mother of five, Anne never has a dull moment in her home, and, now with a new baby on the way and insufferable Aunt Mary Maria visiting - and wearing out her welcome - her life is full to bursting. Still, Mrs. Doctor can't think of any place she'd rather be than her own beloved Ingleside - that is, until the day she begins to worry that her adored Gilbert doesn't love her anymore. But how could that be?

She may be a little older, but she's still the same irrepressible, irreplaceable redhead - the wonderful Anne of Green Gables, all grown up and ready to make her cherished husband fall in love with her all over again!

Although I love Montgomery's first book, Anne of Green Gables, there is something deeper and more mature to the stories she tells of Anne's children. Perhaps it's because I am currently a mother and wife, but this book in the series really touched my heart.

Matured storytelling

I really enjoyed this story. I tend to listen to Audible books when I do work or drive. Got spoiled with Mary Sarah’s reading of Anne of Green Gables, which made it a little hard to listen to other narrators of the series- but this narrator did a splendid job, in keeping with Anne’s personality and demeanor. Well done.

Bought audible version narrated by Barbara Barnes. Very enjoyable!

I love this recording. The reader captures all the characters very well. I'm just so glad I have listened to these and wished I read them as a girl.

Loved it!

another wonderful well-written book by L M Montgomery. maybe not my favorite narrator but it wasn't too bad her voice is for the different characters just were not very distinguishable so you didn't always realize who was saying what.

good story to almost end a saga

I have loved Anne of Green Gables and all the other books in the series since I was a kid. I have reread them over and over, and it is a real pleasure to be able to listen to a good reading of them.

A classic for children and adults

The story of Anne mothering her children so lovingly is the perfect next book in the series.

The adult Anne is still enticing!

I was so excited to see that the gap in the audio versions of the Anne series had been filled. These books have been a favorite of mine for many years. Imagine my disappointment when the audio sounded tinny and the reader really didn’t sound experienced. She paused in the wrong spots, no distinguishing voices and mispronounced names (Annie for Anne and not when the irritating aunt was calling her Annie! It happened when Anne was thinking to herself. It was just the slip of reading the “e” and not noticing-kind of a big deal in Anne’s world). She just seemed inexperienced. What a bummer. Hopefully it will be done again someday with a really solid reader. I miss the rich, flexible voice of Barbara Caruso. She was such an awesome narrator for these books.

I Miss Barbara Caruso Reading to Me
