Story
An inn is a place to rest, a place to talk and share stories, a place to find adventure, or a starting ground for quests and legends. It is in this world, at least. To Erin Solstice, an inn seems like a medieval relic from the past. But here she is, running from Goblins and trying to survive in a world full of monsters and magic. She’d be more excited about all of this if everything wasn’t trying to kill her. But an inn is what she’s found, and so that’s what she becomes; an innkeeper, who serves drinks to heroes and monsters. Mostly monsters. But it’s a living, right?

Everyone loves Mathias. Naturally, when he discovers it’s his destiny to save the world, he dives in headfirst, pulling his best friend, Aaslo, along for the ride. However, saving the world isn’t as easy, or exciting, as it sounds in the stories. The going gets rough, and folks start to believe their best chance for survival is to surrender to the forces of evil, which isn’t how the prophecy goes. At all. You define life or it defines you. In Shawn Speakman’s case, it was both. Lacking health insurance and diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2011, Shawn quickly accrued a massive medical debt that he did not have the ability to pay. That’s when New York Times best-selling author Terry Brooks offered to donate a short story that Shawn could sell to help alleviate those bills—and suggested he ask the same of his other writer friends. Unfettered is the result: An anthology built in order to relieve that debt, featuring short stories by some of the best fantasy writers in the genre.

A great addition the the avatar universe!!!!
This book is Amazing! The depth and tone of this series takes the avatar universe into an amazingly serious and fantastic journey. I absolutely recommend reading/listening to this book. It expands the lore of the avatar universe and gives the character of Kyoshi a humanizing/relatable personality. I only hope they either do more with a Kyoshi’s story after this or continue with more novels about other avatars. Nancy Wu does a fantastic job giving these characters their voices. An amazing performance. 5/5 review. Please if you love avatar you need to share this journey.

This series was fantastic
I was sucked in from the first chapter of the first book to the last sentence of this book. Brilliant telling of a story we all longed for. Nancy Wu is the perfect narrator for these books. She did a masterful job. F. C. Yee is stellar at story telling and incorporated so many wonderful new elements to the avatar world while keeping to the originality of the universe. Do yourself a favor and listen to both of these books.

"Guys, Kyoshi is super gay"
While I feel like the performance of certain characters differs from how I would have imagined them in my head, this is an unavoidable part of audiobooks. What's important is that Kyoshi and Rangi are in love.

So good!
My only complaint is that there are not more books about Kyoshi’s life. Awesome book!

The best Avatar series
This opens up the missing story of Kuruk and Yangchen, including the lesser known accomplishments of Kuruk and some of Yangchen's mistake despite of her revered status. Definitely A+, probably beats both the ATLA and Korra series in the universe.

I loved it!
It was so great, I’m waiting for the next one.
I loved everything about it and I don’t think some of the other reviews are fair.

Complex and Emotional
Awesome Book, fast and unique. The narrator was engaging with both a wide range of voices and emotionally complex.
