Pretty entertaining

I think this audiobook is pretty funny and entertaining. I enjoyed the satyric (sometimes almost cynic) view on film and the industry behind it. Also, Ayoade is doing a great job reading the book and the footnotes. Though, several parts don't really work in this format.

The ‘Interviews’ are Excellent, The Rest is Hit or Miss

The interview sections that make up the majority of the book are excellent. Ayoade’s comic timing is superb (as expected) and the production itself adds a lot of flair. The extended appendix is not quite so smooth though. Those chapters pretty hit and miss, with a larger emphasis on miss. I did love the Terrence Malick tweets / emails though!

Fantastic read.

This is an unrelentingly hilarious book, with a terrific performance. My only gripe is that I wish it was longer.

Loneliness is Individual. Horniness is Universal.

At its core this is a story about a fun, horny guy trying to get laid. Wait...no, even with the amount of Ayoade on Ayoade action that this has, its a fun, surreal look at himself, movie tropes and more.

Classic Ayoade Wit and Cleverness

I had enjoyed the unique experience that is the Ayoade On Top audiobook, so I figured that I'd invest in other Ayoade audiobooks to see how that goes.

This book is crazy but brilliant, and also quite funny. It's sort of biographical, but in a clearly fictional way that plays to Ayoade's particular brand of low-key humor. Plus the fiction is very aware of this being an audiobook instead of a physical book and that all connects to the humor of the work.

But it's not just silly stuff - as always, Ayoade's writing is eloquent, intelligent, and insightful and it clearly shows his love for film. This really is a passion for him and that shines through even if the prose is crafted in a way that slants towards the absurd.

Definitely a fun listening experience and a good time.

I am bathed in awed gratitude...

Richard Chaplin Ayoade is a charming young man who knows all the best English words and pronounces each of them with flawless precision. I suspect he's one of the dozen or so people under the age of fifty who understands the nuances of the semicolon.

This delightful micro opus brought me laughter and philosophich+al consternation; is the pervasive auto eroticism of the narrative sollipsistic or soul-searching? And what of all those hours in the bath? Is the protagonist seeking absolution through ablution?

But none of that matters (especially since I made it all up) What matters is my gratitude to Mr. Ayoade for liberating me from the lonely prison of my contempt for the widely and wildly revered Terence Malick, perpetrator of yard upon yard of drearily facile acid flashbacks disguised as movies.

It's awfully nice to discover common ground with someone i respect and would like to see naked.

There are some production quirks in the sound quality and pacing of this book. They're not intolerable but might have been had I paid full price. I feel somewhat disloyal, especially in light of my revelations, but while I absolutely recommend acquiring this book, I can't quite recommend acquiring this book at full price or credit. I absolutely endorse the content but there's a problem or two with the form ...
