About this listen

There are only three things in this world that are certain: death, taxes, and babies.

Nobody knows this truth better than Emily McCoy, a third year resident working in Baby City, the affectionate nickname for the busy Labor and Delivery unit at a New York City hospital. On a typical day in Baby City, Emily delivers more babies than the number of hours of sleep she manages to squeeze in that night. And definitely more than the number of dates she's been on since she started her training in OB/GYN two years earlier.

As Emily works tirelessly to safely herald baby after baby after baby (after baby) into the world, she becomes well acquainted with the three hard facts of Baby City:

  1. Babies never come when you want them to.
  2. Babies always come when you don't want them to.
  3. You don't know who your true friends are until your baby is sliding down the birth canal.

Written as though one was talking with Freida McFadden!

FM’s sense of humor clearly comes through in her writing! She’s a great story teller - whether it’s fiction, suspense, thrillers or realistic fiction. I enjoyed the book! I love reading her books! The narrator is also outstanding! 👌🏻👏🏻👍

There really wasn’t much of a purpose for this book.

It was really just the day in the life of Gyn residents, no real plot, no twists. It was the most disappointing book from Frieda McFadden that I have ever listened to

Kept my attention mostly

I've grown to enjoy this auther and the storytelling is there. It's probably my fault for not reading the plot summary more closely before making the purchase... A little too graphic for the backdrop, wasn't sure where it was going and wasn't impressed with where it ended up. I'll stick to the stories with mystery and murder.

Not like her other books

Boring story. I was expecting mystery or twist like her other books, but this was a long story with no excitement or mystery.

Not expected

Not her normal storyline. There was no mystery to figure out. It was an okay book just not what I am used to by this author

Not your typical Freida book!

Her books are typically full of twists and turns, this one seems more of like a documentary on L&D. As someone wha has had two babies, I appreciated the banter of the book as told through a doctors perspective. Narration was great and i stayed hooked through the whole thing - mostly because i was waiting for a big OMG NO WAY moment. The shocking moment never came and the ending thought that went through my brain was "Awh, thats nice :)" It was definitely a palette cleanser from all the other murder/thriller types i gravitate to. Give it a listen!

A little boring

I thought it was a little boring. Usually this author keeps me on my toes with plot twists. It’s what I love about her. I did not find that with this book.

If Mark Twain were an obstetrician

Freida has captured the essence of Obstetrics residency perfectly. Truly LOL beginning to end yet it is fully realistic without embellishment. FMcF has the sharpest sense of wit and irony of any current author.
Caveat: if you didn’t go through an ObGyn or similar residency, this book may just be good and educational, whereas it’s heavenly to me. I suppose it would be like reading Huck Finn without working on a riverboat. Yet Worthy reading for anyone.

Not the typical Freida book

All the other reviews have already said this, but it’s definitely not your typical Freida McFadden book. It’s not a mystery or a thriller, but I did enjoy a behind-the-scenes look into what it’s like being an OBGYN resident however what I thought was interesting was honestly not one of the characters is that likeable and it makes me wonder if most doctors really don’t care about their patients. It is also very sad to me if that’s truly how cold the doctor/resident relationship is.
