About this listen

Goldie Locke, of the Three Baehrs Magical Law firm, has spent the last several months putting together a special preserve for endangered Magical creatures. She finally has a space where she can protect the last remnants that have survived the separation from Faerie. She is also caring for her critically ill stepmother, Gwyn, and her young brother - the spitting image of her murdered father. With her own well-being also hanging in the balance, she just doesn't have time to plan the wedding of the century.

Everything changes on the fateful day that Death threatens to take the person she loves most in the world. In that instant, Goldie's whole world changes - her goals, her dreams, and her ambitions are all focused on finding the cure to the mysterious malady that is attacking the Magical Community.

What do you do when the good guys aren't on your side?

Would you choose the welfare of the one or the many?

And, is love ever enough?

Loved it!

A sweet little Faerie Tale about Goldie Locke, a healer trying to save her family members from dying. Goldie is trying to save all the creatures as well. Through out her trials Goldie meets Death. First meeting Death in her dreams or so she thought & then in life. Goldie has so many obstacles to overcome as she does her best to save everyone.

I thought the author, Elizabeth A Reeves did a great job writing this tale. It was fun & exciting and even had me shedding a few tears. I really felt bad for Goldie (the main character). The narrator did a good job too, with her multiple voices and adding excitement in just the right places! All in all the story was quite entertaining and a lot of fun!

FairyTales for Adults

Would you try another book from Elizabeth A. Reeves and/or Michele Carpenter?

Yes, i would.

Would you recommend Baehrly Alive to your friends? Why or why not?

I would, but I would say you should read/listen in order. Although the book made sense, there are references to the first books.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

The narrator has a child-like voice that is kind of spot on for Goldie

Do you think Baehrly Alive needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Oh dear gawd yes. I, not happy this one left me with so many questions.

Any additional comments?

Magical and Fun

Magical creatures such as unicorns, dragons, and a zombie chicken named Fred. What's not to love. For me this was a nice, fun and cozy listen as it reminded me of...well, my critters. My cat listened to this one with me and she also gives this story four paws. Although I listened to the story out-of-order, starting with book three, I still found it whimsical and fun.

There was a lot going on in this story and some of it was hard for me to follow without listening to the other stories however, I loved it and would love to start at the beginning of the series. It was cute and witty and very entertaining. Goldie is a healer and an Earth witch with magical creatures as familiars and she meets Death.

About the narrator : Michele Carpenter made this audiobook super fun. She's an exceptionally talented voice actor. She's super articulate with the character's voices and has great voice inflections. She made this audiobook fun to listen to.

A new look at Goldielocks ...

What made the experience of listening to Baehrly Alive the most enjoyable?

I liked the way Ms. Carpenter was able to bring out Goldie's youthfulness but at the same was able to show Goldie was a grown up.

What did you like best about this story?

It was a twist on the Goldielocks and the 3 Bears story.

What does Michele Carpenter bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I love listening to Ms. Carpenter narrate books. She has a way of drawing you into the story. I also enjoy the music that is at the beginning and the end of each book. Ms. Carpenter writes and performs those songs. Very lovely!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

While I didn't have an extreme reaction to this book per se, I was saddened by Goldie's loss. Won't spoil it but sad none the less.

Any additional comments?

Baehrly Alive is book 3 in the Goldie Locke and the Were Bear series. I haven't read books 1 or 2 yet so I felt like I was missing some of the back story. I'm positive that if I had read these books in order, I would have enjoyed this book even more. Ms. Carpenter's narration again was spot on. Also, as mentioned above, Ms. Carpenter is a very talented musician and her songs enhance the feeling of the book. I would like to listen to more of the books in this series.
