About this listen

On the battlefields of the future, death is not the end for a soldier.
The Revenant Program collects badly wounded soldiers broken by war and converts them into unthinking, unfeeling cyborg weapons. Their bodies are immune to pain, their minds impervious to fear and doubt. All controlled by a neural implant called the Imperative.

They are the ideal force for any mission too deadly or too difficult for normal men. A force that answers to the darkest corners of the military.

But when one of the Revenants awakens, he can only remember two things: that he must fight, and a code name…Dead Man.

Who was he before he became a Revenant? What are the officers and scientists controlling the program to do with a soldier that can question the horrific orders he’s given?

The more those controlling the Dead Man learn of who he was, they realize they may have turned a monster into something truly unstoppable. And with every memory recovered, the Imperative drives the Dead Man closer to insanity.

The Weapon: Battleborn is the first in a new series by best-selling military science fiction author Richard Fox, author of the Ember War Saga and Governor: Ascent to Empire.

Pretty good.

Solid military science-if. It took me a bit ok get to get into than other books of this style, but I ended up continuing the series. If it was only4 stars, I’d pass.

Liked and waiting for more

I liked the history development and the narration very much. It was my first time with the author and the genre, so I didn't have any expectations, but I enjoyed it a lot. Waiting for book 2.

Great Prequel

I thoroughly enjoyed this Ember War prequel. Richard Fox knows how to entertain an audience.

A prequel that’s actually good!

The pre Ember War story is grittier than the main series, but in keeping with a military closer to our time.
Well written, well performed, and worth the time.
5 stars across the board.

Narrator talked like everyone was on coke

The story was ok, but Luke did a better job. Everything was too high energy.

A bit confusing in parts. At the end I was looking for book 2.

This book had me a bit confused. Honestly I had resigned myself to just getting through it and moving on but it got me in the end now I'm interested to see the next step.
The narrator was good.

narratio is terrible

I couldn't get past the terrible narrator. The story wasn't all that good either. Richard Fox is a really good author but this one falls flat.

DNF

not sure if the writing lacked depth, or if the narrator just represented it that way. but it was too painful too often to continue to spend time on it.
