Publisher's summary

The Abbotts are liars. Their charming façade is far from the chilling reality that exists behind closed doors. But despite their secrets, they aren’t killers...are they?

When a member of their quiet community is brutally murdered, the Abbotts find themselves prime suspects of the crime. The couple is desperate to prove their innocence, but when a tape is discovered with horrifying evidence, everything changes.

With shocking truths beginning to surface, Rachael and Caide must decide just how far they are willing to go to protect those they love. Can they trust anyone around them, including each other? They’re liars, remember?

One of the best!

I listen to several books a month and very few leave a lasting impression. This one goes down as one of my favorites! The story is gripping and kept my nail biting attention. The narration was excellent. Don’t hesitate on this one.

I’m well aware this is fiction…

This seemed like it would be a really, very good and interesting story. And unlike other people who provide feedback on books that are fiction, and go into the detail that it was “unrealistic“, I pick books of this genre because I enjoy it. However, this book pushed the limits… Even for me. it seems like halfway through the book, the author, somehow just started rushing to finish it. The unrealistic (and yes, I said it) detail of the court case and law in general made me feel like the author just didn’t care enough to make this area even close to reality. Again, I enjoy fiction because it isn’t real… But at least most authors work to make their books closer to the truth, and have researched enough to provide the book more credibility.

Great listen. Recommend

Just when I thought I figured it out, another monkey wrench and another mystery to solve.

Narrators were really good. Lots of plot twists. I would definitely recommend this one to anyone who loves mysteries.

Why do women continue to forgive?

I actually liked the story, however it did have some unnecessary drama. I thought the auditory performance was well done and I liked that the chapters identified the person the chapter related to.

Textbook fatal attraction!

I figured this fatal attraction out from the very beginning, so I was not at all surprised by what was supposed to have been a twist in the plot. I still enjoyed the book, I just would've liked to have had a harder time trying to figure out who was behind the killings and such. Caide didn’t deserve Rachael, and Rachael didn't deserve any of what Caide put her through.

Has the makings of a made-for-television movie!

Many people, like my sister, will be turned off by an eleven hour+ story. The narrators were perfect for this story. There was never any confusion about which character was speaking. The narrators kept the pacing perfect. I started listening in the evening and could not put it away and listened to it way into the early hours of the next morning. There are unbelievable twists and turns that grab the listener just when you want to take a break. Numerous characters are added in the middle or towards the end of the story which are critical to the plot development. Granted, there are some parts that are longer than necessary, i.e. the emergency room nurse's back-story.

This is a very interesting story that includes references to rich and powerful people, extra-marital relationships; careless and irresponsible media coverage, collegiate romances that lead to troubled marriages, inter-racial relationships, spoiled entitled bratty children and also abused children, emotional betrayals, work-place sex, etc. There is so much more. The protagonist is a demanding wife, but also somewhat naive. I appreciated that there was no profanity of explicit sex. I will be looking for more from this author and the narrators.

Brilliant Loved It

Kiersten Modglin is such a gifted author. Her books always have a unique storyline and a compelling cast. This book has it all. The writing is excellent, character development is outstanding, plot and pacing is truly amazing with as many twists that occur. Intriguing to the point I listened all the way thru! Absolutely recommend!

The cast of narrators were excellent in their portrayal of the characters, bringing them to life!!

Very unbelievable (not in a good way)

It was very convoluted story. Lots of twists and turns but just too unbelievable. I won’t say anything more because I don’t want to spoil anything. Some of the narrators were very good some were ok.

Meh

You really have to suspend belief with this book. I get that it's just a story but the plot holes are so big you could run an obstacle course through them.
The first half of the book was good enough to keep you pulled in, but after that, it just got kind of silly.
I think the performance ultimately saved this book.
