Publisher's summary

In the overlooked moments and routines of our day, we can become aware of God's presence in surprising ways. How do we embrace the sacred in the ordinary and the ordinary in the sacred? Framed around one ordinary day, this book explores daily life through the lens of liturgy, small practices, and habits that form us. Each chapter looks at something - making the bed, brushing her teeth, losing her keys - that the author does every day. Drawing from the diversity of her life as a campus minister, Anglican priest, friend, wife, and mother, Tish Harrison Warren opens up a practical theology of the everyday. Each activity is related to a spiritual practice as well as an aspect of our Sunday worship. Come and discover the holiness of your every day.

Refreshing Change of Pace

Sarah brings to light how walking with Jesus doesn't always involve heroic moments. Life is not a movie and it's possible, albeit necessary, to serve God in every part of our ordinary day.

Refreshing!

I did not grow up with a life of liturgy — that aspect was left out of my baptist upbringing — but this book speaks to my heart in such powerful ways! What a gift it is to view the daily tasks of motherhood as a life of liturgy and worship.

The narrator’s great job enhances the contents

...and gives my mind’s eye a mental image of the author as being a person I can relate to. I really enjoyed this narrator.

The book itself is an awesome way of pointing me toward being mindful, the specialness, the sacredness of the everyday things and how these ordinary things are reminders of God’s love and heart toward His believers.

Started for convenience

A friend's church started a book club/Bible study of this book. Normally I'm working during the time they meet, but I found myself off work a little early...and not quite finished reading that week's chapter. So I quickly downloaded the book and listened on my drive home, and I'm so glad I did!

I'm a liturgical church girl myself, so I enjoyed the connection between the historic liturgy and the patterns in our daily lives. The book is a great read... but the audio book is like sitting down to coffee with a likeminded friend who is encouraging and challenging the way you think about the monotony of work and chores and parenting as...worship? Yes! And as soon as I finished the first listen, I knew I had to go back to make sure I really took it all in (and hear the chapters that I had read previously).

What a great book!

This book is such a great reminder that God is in the ordinary, small, everyday moments. This is definitely a book that when you get through it, you will definitely want to revisit. In addition to embracing ordinary moments, I learned more about the Anglican denomination which I had no idea about, and that was insightful as well.

A must read!

This is an absolutely love little book! It’s a short listen and the author’s writing style is warm as well as educational. The narrator does a fabulous job and has a great voice as well.

Tremendous work on everyday life

Tish Warren has written a book that I will return to again and again. I am going to work through this with my wife and maybe with a group of friends. I have rarely been as encouraged by a book as I have been by this one. I read Jamie Smith's popular level book on worship and habits a few months back, and these two books together make a great, great pair.

I thoroughly enjoyed Liturgy of the Ordinary, and (more importantly) I am walking away with a renewed desire to embrace the everydayness of my life as a place of worship and ministry

Best of 2017

What made the experience of listening to Liturgy of the Ordinary the most enjoyable?

I listened to this book on a road trip and loved the topic and the performance. It's my favorite "read" of the year! It reminded me afresh that worship is not contained to Sunday mornings. Practicing Christianity includes, but extends far beyond, Bible study, prayer and participation in authorized church programs. Christ's grace is embodied in the mundane routines of my home life, workplace and neighborhood, as well. I have an opportunity to receive and extend grace as I move about my day. I will definitely listen to this book again.
