About this listen

In which Lord John, anticipating a voyage home to England after his brief stint as military Governor of Jamaica, instead finds himself on his way to Cuba, where the British navy is preparing to lay siege to Havana - and where the Dowager Duchess of Pardloe (aka John’s mother) is a guest (and potential hostage) of Governor Juan de Prado.

One of the two final novellas of Seven Stones to Stand or Fall. This collection of Outlander novellas are all dealing with the interesting side-stories and lacunae of the Outlander universe.

A hint of another book possibility

I love Lord John Grey. He loves his family and especially his mother!! I hope we get to read Benedicta's manuscript someday.

Lord John From Jamaica To Havana

This was published as one of the seven novellas in ‘Seven Stones to Stand or Fall’ but then published as stand alone Audible book. It is another view of how Lord John Gray has become a very important character in the Outlander world. After his mother tells him how she has written about event and will publish just for her family, he remembers to himself how he wrote letters to Jamie Fraser but never sent them. This is a short story about the English attack on Havana and how Lord John must get there ahead of the attack because his mother and cousin are there. Short story but still very entertaining as are all of Diana’s stories. The world of Outlander is all encompassing. Jeff Woodman has become Lord John and is excellent as narrator.

Besieged Creatively True to Havana History

That’s what I adore about Diana Gabaldon - with just a little of your own spark of creativity, it could be just so ✨ Besides Lord John is an intriguing character. 🙋🏼‍♀️ZoeV

Diana ALWAYS keeps the Reader.....

enchanted. Any Story she writes is steeped in Historical truth ,and finishing with Characters one cares a great deal about. Lord John being no exception. From his entry into the "Outlaws"camp to save the English Damsel in distress (Clair) to a peek of his life off the main Stage, he is a worthy Character to indulge upon. No spoilers here ,just good reads !

Distracted by narrator.

The narrator reminded me so much of Stevie from FAMILY GUY that I couldn’t get into the book. He made John sound like a Dandy when speaking and that’s not the impression I got of Lord John at all throughout the main books.

Excellent story

Diana Gabaldon does a fantastic job of weaving her stories into historical events. This is a very nice short story with Lord John, one of my favorite Gabaldon characters. With the actual siege of Havana as the back drop, we get more insight into Lord John, his family, and some new acquaintances.

Great narrator

Captivating story, and as always John Gray’s character is complex and charming, my favorite character of all.

Not up to her usual standards

A little disappointed in this book. It certainly loses something when compared to Davina Porter. Doesn’t mean I wil stop reading her books
