words please. not soud effects and useless music.

I have loved this series for a long time. this could have worked if not for the overpowering background nonsense. the original narration was beyond perfect.

Hard to listen to due to sound effects

I got this title as it was a graphic audio rendition of this series which I generally enjoy, however the sound effects in this are so loud sometimes you can barely hear the narration. Definitely takes away from the story, unlistenable at times.

For everyone complaining that the sound effects overtake the voice

I have a samsung I changed the equalizer from normal to classic, it fixed the sound fx from being overwhelming. I can clearly hear every word now.

The writing, the story telling.. masterclass.

This was one of the best books I’ve listened to, I can’t believe this isn’t a HBO show yet. Game of thrones be damned, this is an absolutely brilliant series.

This is my favorite series. After LOTR.

I listen to it twice a year, every year. Amazing story, character development, world building, magic system, and incorporation of Scripture and Biblical principles. Can't write a review long enough, so I'll leave it at that.

THE most reliable review

I read this series twice a year. It’s borderline scripture to me. I have quotes around the house. I recommend this to everyone. The OG narrator (Simon Vance) is the greatest. So once you’re able to accept that he’s not present in this production you can start to appreciate this as a new (read: different) production of a beloved story. Some of the new voices are perfect for the characters. (But some of the pronunciation is annoying)

A lot of people complaining about the sound effects seem to misunderstand that this is a completely different way of enjoying the books. Having finished this first book I will be listening to all the rest in this format to see a different “version” of the story.

It has its own value for sure and scenes take on a new life in this production but my favorite version of this book remains Simon Vance’s narration. We’ll see how I feel after book 2. Starting it now…

Mixing needs a serious adjustment

I really liked how it started, but within an hour of listening I couldn't take it anymore. The music and sound effects are so loud I couldn't follow what was happening. Even after relistening I just got lost. I'm gonna go get the regular audiobook version so that I can at least follow the story. Really bummed, this was my first attempt at a [Dramatized Adaptation] and I'm not impressed. If they just turned the volume down so the sound effects and music didn't wash out the voices (the entire reason for listening in the first place) then I would reconsider. But as is its not worth getting. Also why does the music have to be nonstop? I get it can help in specific scenes, but my gosh, I don't need it for 20 hours straight.

My first Graphic Audio

I’m so disappointed I went with the graphic audio. I have already read this book so I knew I liked it, but my husband prefers audio and I thought this would be a good way to introduce him to the series. No. The voice actors were so over-the-top. It made me like the characters the less because they came across as entirely too dramatic. Too whiny, too wimpy, too everything. I get that you sort of have to compensate for the lack of visuals, but this was just not enjoyable to me. I also thought the background “music” was distracting and almost overpowering, and there were COMMERCIALS between book parts. Never again. I will only download regular narration books.
