About this listen

"Thoroughly impressed. I think fans of WJ Lundy, Shawn Chesser, and Bobby Adair will love this one." -James Cook, author of the Surviving the Dead series Can the world's biggest smart-ass survive the apocalypse? All the news channels can talk about is the Red Flu, a nasty strain that came out of nowhere to wreak havoc on the population. There's also something the government isn't telling the public about the Red Flu- both the secret of its true effects, and exactly how it spreads. Brody Tate doesn't care. He's a young smart-ass living in New York City, locked in a dead-end job. His only concern is telling his boss where he can shove it. Besides, the news only exists to scare people, right? But something is wrong. There's blood in his boss's office. A woman is dead on the floor. His boss is eating the cleaning lady. He kills the man in self-defense- not that the cops believe him- and gets carted away for murder. As if his day wasn't bad enough, his boss managed to bite him during the struggle. With the Red Flu tearing up his insides, Brody finds himself in a self-destructing New York, lost in the horrors of a crumbling city while fighting to stay alive. The question now is, if the Red Flu doesn't kill him, and someone with it doesn't, what will be left of him? What will he become? Horror Post-Apocalyptic Science Fiction Fiction Scary New York Boss

Realistic

I loved it. I had to download the second as soon as I read the first. I would read anything by this author.

Very addictive

I enjoyed this book and went on to Book 2, which was also free. The story is very interesting and the characters are well developed and unique.

The voice

The virtual voices have no emotion and most of the time sounds very flat. so sometimes this becomes very hard to listen to

Virtual Voice aaah!!

The story is OK but the virtual voice is terrible. No emotion and can't play the different parts.

If Audible does not end this trend soon I may have to start looking elsewhere for good books to listen too.

The story held me captive!

I have tried to listen to a couple of other books with virtual voice and thought I couldn't get into them because of the voice. I was wrong. They just didn't hold my attention well! This one, though... This book grabbed me and wouldn't let go until I heard the whole thing! The sarcasm is fun and the virtual voice seemed to read that rather well. The main character has a fun personality that made me smile and laugh a few good times. His friends (and non-friends) were entertaining as well. The zombies are good and the twists are interesting too. I found this book to be worth listening to!

good zombie book

I like the main guys pov, even though I don't always agree. I feel like this one is more realistic in the way the characters behave. They don't help every group, they don't pilage a lot of places and make an empire, they are just trying to escape. It gives me Black Summer vibes.

Enough Unique Aspects to Make It a Very Good Story.

I liked that there were some unique deviations from other zombie stories. Also the characters are interesting and likable. Even the main character, who is a major ass hole is likable in an odd way. But seriously, the guy is a real jerk and to everyone.

28 days meets covid flue

Reads very much like a short story, which I have mixed feelings about. The robot voice is what it is and would even say it's not horrible but the timing and words delivery makes the listen a bit choppy. I do like the break of a few tropes such how a bite is not an automatic death sentence or a group are biker thugs are not automatically
generic apocalyptic bad guy thugs even if it's just barely. overall the story is okay, have some good moments and some really odd bad decisions which took me out of the story. Don't expect to much but if you enjoy the genre it's a run of the mill zombie story to get you through between credits.

Audio lacks emotion

The audio voice lacks any emotion that is only a human voice can do. When emphasize certain words etc. voice was pleasant but monotonous.
Story was good and I loved the NY setting for a change. Hope the story can done by a better reader.
