About this listen

A small mountain town is isolated by a snowstorm as an ancient evil, gone pandemic, turns the residents into the living dead. Almost overnight the town becomes a snowy tomb of the roaming, hungry infected.

Stranded by the weather, hiding, a small group of survivors follows the progress of the disease as society around them and around the world begins to break down.

Determined to escape, they find that the normal rules of civilization don't apply anymore. Will they be able to adapt to this strange, hungry new world?

Decent characters and plot outline, but pacing was not great (both in the writting and the one note narration) and lack of detail at key moments made a lot of the action really confused.
The interludes where the 'history' of the infection was explored seemed completely pointless. It was like the author was told they had to give a reason for zombies so they just shoved one in. Added nothing to the story.

Fine as background listening when doing chores.

The story was typical zombie apocalypse but I do enjoy those. The narrator has a grating voice. She made it hard to listen. Hopefully this author will use someone else on the next one.

Pretty good story

I was not particularly impressed with any of the characters except perhaps for Charles. The first part where the reporters go into Haiti after the big earthquake and first encounter the zombies was good. Much of the action after that was rather contrived and the characters did some stupid things. Since book 2 is also free from Plus Catalog, I am going to listen to it.

Normal zombie nook - not particularly outstanding

I liked the narration as well as the story line and characters. When taking a break from listening, I wanted to listen again to find out what happened next. Moving on to book 2 of the series now.

I liked it

While I enjoyed this book, I do have to say that it's a fairly stock zombie tale. Both the characters and the story are good but not great.

I'll continue with the series in the hopes that it becomes a bit more unique as it progresses.

Fairly stock zombie tale

This book is ok for a newbie in the genre. I found myself zoning out from time to time. The storyline didn’t keep me engaged.

Meh. It was just ok

Dont waste your time. There are way better zombie books out there. This one is pootly written and has a subpar storyline at best. Not worth the time.

Terrible book

I good quick listen to. To the point and even a backstory within this story. Gave an insight into how this virus came to be. I would like to read book 2, yet i have to use a credit for it and not book 3 🤔 hmm.

Enjoyed

I would have been very irritated if I had used a credit for this story. Fortunately it came as part of the membership.
This would probably be a good introduction book for the zombie apocalypse genre. Furthermore, the violence and the language was fairly tame. The storyline and foundation were somewhat standard and the outcome predictable.
I appreciate a human narrator these days. This narrator did a fine job.

Thank you for using a human narrator

The story line is kinda basic. I agree that it is weirdly biased against non-whites and non-Christians. The main character acts stupidly at times, like one minute she is preparing to protect herself and other times she is leaving the door unlocked and behaving like she hasn't been attacked multiple times??! The narrator reads nice and clearly, but is terrible at men's voices, as well as the voices of other ethnicities. I started it and it's short, so I finished it, but it is not a book that I would pay for or waste a credit. It's okay to pass the time while doing something else.

Really a 2.5
