About this listen

Into what kind of hell had I emerged from under those ruins?

Elizabeth Bennet anticipated nothing more than a pleasant day among friends and relations when the pleasure trip to the ruins of Bodden Chapel commenced. But what began as mere diversion turns frightening when the walls of the ancient church tumble down around them, endangering lives, demolishing pride and propriety, and bringing a hero into focus.

As the earth begins to tremble, Fitzwilliam Darcy sees Elizabeth Bennet is in mortal danger and acts on instinct to save her. But when the dust settles, there are unforeseen consequences to his actions, including a serious injury to his eyesight.

I could not be married to a man who could need me the rest of his life, but never love me.

Bound together under the most strained circumstances, Darcy and Elizabeth embark on a future neither one of them saw coming. Time can heal all wounds, but will time allow them to see through hearts made clear and eyes no longer blinded by prejudice?

Great Jaff

This story was different. But good different. There was some angst in the beginning. But not too much. Great Jaff and I highly recommend this book to a Jane Austen fan fiction lover.

Love Conquers All

I previously read this story and absolutely loved it. It strikes a little differently as an audiobook since it is from Elizabeth's POV and she spends quite a bit of time spinning out once she falls in love with Darcy and thinks it is unrequited. A miscommunication trope seems to work in Regency books since they couldn't really disclose their feelings, and with the forced nature of E&D's engagement, she could never be sure what was going on. I do love how Darcy's temporary disability humbles Elizabeth and Darcy, and I also adored the sweet friendship between Darcy and Mr. Bennet as Darcy tries to win Elizabeth.

The title says it all

Oh, Lizzie, Lizzie, Lizzie!

This was a great twist of the story of Lizzie and Darcy, but of the two of them, Lizzie is the most blind.

Every evidence of his true character and care for her, Lizzie either excuses away as something else, or attributes to something prideful or disdainful. But, we know Lizzie, she is STUBBORN!

Stevie Zimmerman is, as usual, superb!

Very Enjoyable Reimaging

The plot while similar in many aspects did diverge greatly from the original story. I enjoy very much that the beginning of the book opened to the event that changed the plot/timeline that sent us into a different Pride & Prejudice multiverse

Great story different from other variations

I can pictured Darcy and Elizabeth through this book, it’s my first book from this author and I really enjoyed it!

Enjoyable, but...

This book was good for what it was. The plot was very simple, the banter (when there was some) was fun, there was a twist to the paring which was unique. I think what annoyed me about the it is that the entire book was from Elizabeth's POV. It got tiring after a while. Especially when her thought process and her character deviates from the usually level-headed and smart character that we are (or at least I am) used to in these Pride and Prejudice variations.

Also, I usually love Stevie Zimmerman's narrations but this one grated in my ears a bit. The quality didn't seem as good, maybe it's just me or maybe it because this is the first time Zimmerman narrated for this author?

All in all, enjoyable but not Mackrory's best and trust me she has some excellent books on Audible. I've listened to quite a few of them. My favorite is "Haunting Mr. Darcy". If you're going to spend a credit I'd recommend listening to HMD first before this.

An amazing JAFF!

Ms Mackrory is one of my favorite authors. This book is now my very favorite JAFF novel. Towards the end I realized that I would listen in short spurts because I didn’t want it to end. Even though I was sad it ended it was an amazing read! Stevie Zimmerman’s narration is excellent.

Awesome new take on the P & P romance!

Wonderfully written new take on P & P with terrific reader! Starts with collapsing ruins putting my favourite couple buried together under the rubble! Highly recommend -- listened to this one twice already. Love it! Don't miss it!

Disappointed

KaraLynne Mackrory is one of my favorite JAFF authors with three of her books in my top ten. Thus my expectations were high for this story.

I should have been warned by the title itself, but was not. Elizabeth’s character is painfully obtuse and felt mean hearted (is that a term?). By the time she came around I did not like her at all and just could not relate to her and Darcy as ODC.

I do not like to give a negative review especially for such a talented author but was deeply disappointed. I’m hoping others saw something redeeming that I was not able to.

As always I have found Stevie Zimmerman to be an outstanding narrator. One of my faves.

Elizabeth's character is grating

This Elizabeth is the most irritating Elizabeth character I have ever come across. She is back and forth so much in her mind with misunderstandings and assumptions that it is tiring I actually skipped 2 chapters and didn't miss much. I thought it might get better, but in the end I was just thankful it was finally over.
