About this listen

Monsters breed legends…and legends breed monsters. This is the way of things. This is the way of the Ranger.

Turned from the path of the assassin, Asher roams the world no better than a nomad, with naught to offer but his sword and grit. But woe betide the monster that believes his sword and grit will not be enough…

In a twisted chance of fate, the brash actions of Doran Heavybelly—a dwarven hunter with a lot to say—forces Asher back into the world of man. And so the ranger is brought into the light, into the gaze of Illian’s greatest crime guilds and onto the lawless island of Dragorn.

A deal must be made, and with a creature far worse than any of the fiends Asher has put to his sword. To save those who cannot save themselves, the ranger must choose between his life and theirs. Should he make such a deal, 'tis not his life that would be forfeit but the man he has worked so hard to become.

In the end, it will all come down to blood and coin…

This story line throughout is just amazing. The flow is perfect the back story gives the reader/listener a great manageable ability to keep the players in mind and order of importance. The narration is second to none. Quaintrell and Brand again produce a powerhouse of a audiobook….

Can’t get enough of this story line.

Philip Quaintrell has quickly become one of my all time favorite authors. Not one of his books disappoints and this one surely doesn’t. I cannot get enough of his characters and their stories. I recommend him to all.
Steven Brand does a fantastic job narrating. I purposefully did not speed it up too fast as to clearly hear his excellent voice and storytelling. I’m thrilled he narrates Quaintrell’s other books.

Devouring this series!

This one was amazing but so heartbreaking at the same time. Asher overall had a really rough time in this book but his dynamic with the dwarves was simultaneously so sweet and sad. His difficulty adjusting to how to accept his blooming relationships with others was bittersweet. It was amazing to see his growth and change, but to see him give so much while still believing himself to be a bad man and refusing to admit how much he felt for Doran and the Stormshields was just terrible.
I loved this book and I wish I could experience it for the first time again.
The narrator also does a fantastic job with voicing the different characters and adding both depth and reliability to Asher’s internal dialogue.

Gut-wrenching but Heartwarming
