About this listen

"I never liked jazz music because jazz music doesn't resolve. But sometimes you have to watch somebody love something before you can love it yourself....I used to not like God because God didn't resolve. But that was before any of this happened."
Donald Miller

For anyone wondering if the Christian faith is still relevant in a post-modern culture, for anyone thirsting for a genuine encounter with a God who is real, for anyone yearning for a renewed sense of passion in life...Blue Like Jazz is a fresh and original perspective on life, love, and redemption.

Critic reviews

"Miller...is a young writer, speaker, and campus ministry leader. An earnest evangelical who nearly lost his faith, he went on a spiritual journey, found some progressive politics, and most importantly, discovered Jesus' relevance for everyday life....Miller is enjoyably clever, and his story is telling and beautiful, even poignant. (The story of the reverse confession booth is worth the price of the book.) The title is meant to be evocative, and the subtitle -- 'Non-Religious' thoughts about 'Christian Spirituality' -- indicates Miller's distrust of the institutional church and his desire to appeal to those experimenting with other flavors of spirituality." Near the end of the story is the comment “I want Jesus to happen to you.” This is my second read of ‘Don’s’ book and something has happened again. It’s a beautiful read.

The most important thing…

Refreshingly authentic. Engages all of life with almost child-like wonder while deep truths lurk in the background. Surprisingly fearless exploration of freedom, meaning and compassion.

This started it for me, it’s been a story so unpredictable, complex, beautiful, sad, happy. This helped me complete my treasure hunt that was etched into my soul whenever that thing was created. I love music, don’t like jazz, but I listen to music I like, and my life is unpredictable and improvised upon in real time.

This was it

loved the authors thought provoking honesty and willingness to challenge the status quo. Even if you hate the book it is worth a read to make you think why you believe what you believe.

MUST READ IF YOU KNOW THERE MUST BE MORE

The book starts, a little, slow, be patient. He speaks of his hesitations with Christianity, the prejudices and judgments we accidentally, and sometimes intentionally portray, and then how he fell in love with Jesus. You’ll be surprised at how this happens. A very organic story.

Must read! Enlightening!
