About this listen

Purple. The foundation of an influential trade in a Roman world dominated by men. One woman rises up to take the reins of success in an incredible journey of courage, grit, and friendship. And along the way, she changes the world. But before she was Lydia, the seller of purple, she was simply a merchant's daughter who loved three things: her father, her ancestral home, and making dye. Then unbearable betrayal robs her of nearly everything. With only her father's secret formulas left, Lydia flees to Philippi and struggles to establish her business on her own. Determination and serendipitous acquaintances - along with her father's precious dye - help her become one of the city's preeminent merchants. But fear lingers in every shadow until Lydia meets the Apostle Paul and hears his message of hope, becoming his first European convert. Still, Lydia can't outrun her secrets forever, and when past and present collide, she must either stand firm and trust in her fledgling faith or succumb to the fear that has ruled her life.

LYDIA SELLER OF PURPLE

I know this was fictional but feel that so much time was spent by the author is researching what Biblical records it made the reading of this account very plausible. Thank you for this well written and well researched book! The Bible has so many treasures.

Fascinating historical novel

Biblical characters and settings come to life in this historical novel set during the ministry of St Paul the Apostle.

Fantastic!

This is my favorite book by Tessa so far. The story is beautifully written with bits of wisdom woven in. I found myself encouraged as I went along.
The narration is THE BEST I've ever heard. Rendah Heywood has a soothing English accent. I could listen to her read all day.
Tessa and Rendah are the perfect team.

Loves it

The narrator really pulled me in. Loved the story, the historical details, and the way the Bible/gospel was woven into the plot.

Tessa Afshar is becoming my favorite writter.

So much more than a romance novel.
my favorite part is everything after Paul and the other men show up. No, make that after 20 years. No, make that after she moved to Phillipi. No, make that ... well dang, make that the whole book. Excellent story, written well, no loose ends... I will probably read it again and again.

Delightful and inspiring!

I thoroughly enjoyed the Bread of!Angels! The story of Lydia was full of heart a d heartache, fear and courage, Faith and love! I love purple myself, and enjoyed cheering for this you g woman overcoming the odds! There was just enough direct Biblical references to make it feel familiar but deepening my Vision of the Philippian church
